I had a set up with a cat5 cable from my HH5 to another HH5 the other side of the house to get a decent Wi-Fi signal. The cable was connected to a Netgear 5-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch, TV, DVD recorder, Sky and the router were connected to the switch. Connection from the switch to the router via the WAN slot as recommended in various posts. I treated myself to an Amazon Fire TV box and ran out of slots. I connected the Fire TV to the router and everything worked well. Unfortunately it all looked a bit untidy, so I splashed out on a Netgear 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch and connected up as before except the Fire TV was connected to the switch this time. Connecting a cable from the switch to the HH5 router WAN slot and I got nothing. I checked all the cables were plugged in OK, checked the power, everything I could think of and still no Wi-Fi. Eventually I plugged into a LAN slot and Hey Presto, I was back in the game.
Can anybody out there tell me why the WAN slot connection worked from the original switch but not from the Gigabit switch.
