I would 100% stay with a local NAS.
Ive got just under 52TB spread over 4 NAS boxes with I think about 20+ HDD's from various manufactures, and all are normal desktop type drives, they are accessed all the time for NVR, PC/Laptop backups and general file storage and ive only had one disk fail in the last 3.5 years - two of the NAS boxes are in a detached garage for a crude off-site backup (if the house burns down, the garage should survive and vice versa), even those are reliable.
