I thought that too, but doing a quick search shows it will work with Linux on the Pi and it looks to me to be fairly easy which is why I made the suggestion.

I got the feeling from the OP that they wanted something that didnt cost the earth, my suggested approach would cost less than £50 albeit needing some brainpower and extra work to make it do exactly what is required.

It would be connected to a PC, possibly move it every few days to get readings, also we'd need to power it in between anyway.

That Seneye device would do it but it's too expensive

I think the 4 Port USB 2.0 over Gigabit IP Server would do it...

Make sure whatever you get has a good returns policy. That one you link to says:

Our USB 2.0 IP server gives you the ability to add a USB printer or external hard drive to your network

The device you have is not a printer or external hard drive - it may work but there is a decent chance it won't.

They may also do a wireless version. Mine has been running for about 11 years 24/7 - the only fault being the linear psu which has capacitors failing every 3/4 years NOTE the psu is not of Silex supply, theirs being a switch mode which caused interference to my radio frequencies of interest.
