Re: BT Hub failure?

You may be able to just plug a pc into the modem and check if it works. If so you need to obtain a new Hub from somewhere, or get a new Hub 6 from BT Retail due to the old being faulty. That is likely to require an engineer visit to prove it is dud.

So, went to PCW for a Hub 6 but on closer inspection, the 4th LAN port isn't labelled WAN so I didn't buy it.

Now regretting it.

Can I use a Hub 6 for FTTC with FTTP?

You should not be needing to buy the hub with your own money - time to insist on BT sending you one out

Won't get it until next week at the earliest.

Would be cheaper to buy another one than pay £6 a gig as an extra on 4G BT.

No, you cannot use a standard hub 6

Has no one you know got an old hub 3/4/5 you might borrow ?

Any router with a configurable wan port should do the trick . You could get it sale or return maybe, just to prove its the router.

Set up for PPPoE, username [email protected] password dependent on if the router insists on it 123ABC or blank

Sadly not.

Out FTTP neighbour is away on holiday and anyone else I know is miles away.

I've ordered a new router from the bay which should be here tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Well, I was in work when the hub arrived so I asked the missus to plug it in. Orange light frown

Drove home despondently but thought I'd give it another go and this time switch off the wall router too.

Bingo!!!

Speeds a little slow initially, just a few meg, but after about 15 minutes back up to full fat Infinity 4.

Thank you to all of you!
