Bridge router

I am moving to Zen next month and a bit for fttc. I have a weak wifi spot in the house and am looking to setup a second router there which will be ethernet cable to the primary router fritz box.
Can anyone recommend a good not so expensive second router in order to do this

Why do you need a second router?

If all you want is improved WiFi, then a Wireless Access Point will be all you require.

If your moving to Zen and getting a FritzBox7530 then you can use a second FritzBox router as a Mesh repeater, works well for me. Models FB7530, Fb3490 and fb4040 all support Mesh working and often pop up on eBay etc. Al these models support LAN as well as WiFi connections back to the main router.

There's no need to use a mesh repeater when there's ethernet cable there. A standard wi-fi access point wired by ethernet will give faster and more reliable performance.

Yes, very straightforward to set-up additional fritzbox as a mesh repeater using LAN cable. Wifi settings are all copied automatically across.

Agree Sarah best to use LAN backhaul connection, I am not an expert but thought that using the FBox inbuilt mesh functionality, rather than as a non-mesh AP, would improve the handover of clients from one access point to another plus band steering could be used? Always happy to learn otherwise

I have just done this myselt using a TP-Link EAP115 access point. It is inexpensive and works effectively. It uses power over ethernet which I was not familiar with but is simple to enable with a POE power injector which is actually smaller than the usual router power supply.

I was going to use a spare Bulldog router but the TP-Link solution is a much neater thing the size of a light switch.

An ebay Plusnet or BT Home Hub will do the job.

Without a central controller or mesh, in a smaller property, how do you ensure clients don't hang on to the remote AP and suffer awful performance? My experience of multiple independent APs in a home using Ethernet connectivity has been disappointing, and mesh systems (Ethernet or WiFi backhaul) gave much better user experience.
