Anything I need to do about my socket?

[link to this post]

Here's a pic of my BT master socket, just curious if I need to order a new face plate or something to 'modernise' it a bit?

I don't have a matching cable so would need to either order a new face plate or cable, I'd rather not use the bundled DSL filter that came with my FritzBox because I don't intend to use the phone at all and want the least possible interference/problems from the socket to the modem smile

Thanks!

Using a filter wont cause any interference

Here is one with the front visible

I just removed it so I could see what was behind it.. the socket is the same plug as in the picture, I believe it's a typical "BT phone socket" that's a bit elongated, not quite an RJ11.

The socket doesn't seem to be an "VDSL Interstitial Plate" because there's no RJ11 on the top, so my guess is this is just a "NTE5". Checking the Thinkbroadband guide

Yes, that’s just a standard NTE5 ... and a fairly recent one too.

Nothing wrong with it. Appears to be no extension wiring connected.

Use the provided filter.

You could just pop on the filter plate so it has the filter built in.

Something like this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265019124632

You would only need to install the faceplate, not the back part.

It literally just pushes in, nice and easy.

Or you can replace the whole socket with a new one, mk5 version, but this would require touching the wires at the back of the master which is against the terms and conditions of openreach and would be at your own risk / not advised unless you know what you’re doing. That said it is only two wires A and B and it’s self terminating.

NTE5C MK2 + VDSL MK4 OpenReach Telephone Master Socket + Back Box https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07LFMPVX4/ref=cm_sw_r_c...

Again as a novice recommendation to just get the filtered socket part for the older box, if you want it to look neat, else using ISP filter is absolutely fine and won’t impact performance really.

Something like this should work, I got one a few years ago for ADSL as I did not want filters hanging around, the connections on the back is for extensions if you want to connect directly.

Thanks, I ordered one of these!

Just so the set-up looks cleaner.

Though I am sure back when I was with Zen a few years ago, I didn't even use a filter, I just had a cable straight into the face plate and the modem smile
