Dial in user

[link to this post]

I have upgraded from a Draytek 2830 to a Draytek 2865 and used previous settings successfully and am on line. The Draytek 2865 is using Firmware Version 4.3.2.1_BT and the DSL Version is 8D1B17_A/B/C HW: A.

One thing that has got me stuck is adding a Remote Dial-in User. When I try to enable index 1, the message: "If PPTP, L2TP, SSL VPN or OpenVPN is enabled, password cannot be null, otherwise, the corresponding profile cannot be enabled." appears. I just can't find where such a password should be entered.

Would appreciate help on this issue please.

Haven't looked in detail, but do you need to define users (and passwords etc) more generally somewhere else in the setup?

Yes there is a configuration page to do just that but access is denied by the pop up message described in my original posting..

Are you able to change the General Setup from 'Rule Based' to 'User Based' as described in the section above?

If not you may need to reset the router to factory default and try to make the selection. You will need to enable users to make dial-in etc work correctly.

Digesting your recent posts. Will print off the relevant pages to assist in this task.

It's been a hard slog to get a basic service up running and would be very reluctant to start over. Never had this issue previously of adding a dial in user when configuring routers in the past.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

I haven't used that specific model, on others you click on the index number to bring up the configuration for that item. Once configured you can quickly disable/reenable items on the index page.

The router is on a remote site attended on an ad-hoc basis at any time during a 24 hour period. The connection provides streaming of CCTV images back to base. As such carrying out tweaks on a live system isn't sensible; go in and make a positive change, yes, but not a playground to attempt fixes.

So I have ordered up another 2865, to be used later on another site, to experiment with the tweaks necessary to achieve remote dial in access. I've had a response from Draytek as how to actually setup remote dial in access but without having an actual router to hand it is difficult to understand the instructions. The setup for this feature is crtainingly different to other routers previously owned.

I'll keep ypu folks posted once the ordered router is to hand.

This could have been a cheaper alternative to buying a router to check out the GUI smile
