Pleased you didn't bother.

The only time it'd be worthwhile would be if you were generating so much data that gigabit couldn't keep up with it, which you aren't, or if the backups weren't completing overnight and you saw performance problems using it while they were doing their thing.

A few places backups can bottleneck depending on the software you're using but sounds like your home network isn't one of them. Think you've saved yourself £250 that would've been unnecessary.

I saw that Terramaster have started to produce the adaptor and thought maybe it would do the job, but posting about it here and the replies I got here, got me to do some tests.

At the end of the day the set-up does what I need, it may not be the fastest system. I set up a fibre system for the other half last year, I think it was last year and that works flipping well, but then she has a modern machine and the NAS is home built.

I maybe should have gone that way, but I did not think of it at the time.

Yeah, i can put that £250 towards my next update, be it PC or Mac, I have £1,021.72 in my computer update account at the moment and i am in no rush to update, so I will keep adding to it. Mind you, that will be the most I ever spent on a machine all at once.
