Trying to route PPPoE connection through managed switch.

[link to this post]

Currently I have a POE injector taking my BT FTTP connection (PPPoE) from the router to the ONT, so I can use my UPS on the ONT.

I have now got a POE managed switch so was hoping to just route the FTTP connection through the switch so I could do away with the injector.

I set up a unique VLAN on two of the ports, connecting one to the ONT and one to the router. I labeled them untagged and the ports have no other VLAN membership

Now when I connect to the internet it is very erratic, some sites work and some don't eg. fast.com doesn't but bbc.co.uk does.

Just wondering if anyone had an ideas or is my theory completely wrong smile

BT 900/110 Mbps

I do exactly this, (without the POE) I have 2 untagged ports on the same VLAN, no other VLAN memberships. I've been running this for years without issue.

Port 24 - ONT
Port 23 - Router (in my case opnsense)

Pipex
Nildram
UKFSN
Be *
Xilo / Uno
Zen
Now -> BT

Fibre is here ! FTTP smile

Wild guess, but this could be an MTU issue.

Good wild guess, changed the max frame size on those ports to 9216 and everything is back to full speed smile
