BT Infinity FUP v ADSL2+ Unlimited

There's a new FTTC cab on my street, BT website says the service is available from 23 Feb 2010. Can't decide between
O2 ADSL2+ 16 Mbit down / 1.2 Mbit up (on the O2 checker) or FTTC 23Mbit down 9 Mbit up (on the Infinity checker).

I'm worried BT will strangle the extra speed available on Infinity option 2 product by using draconian FUP policies. With O2/BE ADSL2+ you know the score upfront, their internet is unlimited, and they don't use FUP to strangle speeds.

I suggest you go with O2, the reality is with BT actual speeds will probably be nowhere near the synch for much other than speedtests.

BT Retail won't be the only ISP offering packages based on the FTTC product, other ISPs such as AAISP and Entanet are currently (or soon to be) offering FTTC based connections. Their usage limits, traffic management or congestion levels may or may not suit you.

Draw back with Be*/O2 is that you will be locked into 12 months, in that time another ISP may start offering a FTTC based product you like. My advice would be that if you aren't in a hurry sit tight and see what other ISPs have FTTC offerings. Or go for someone like Enta who have a 1 month contract, if you don't like the service you can switch to Be*/O2 and you should only be out ~£45 for the FTTC connection charge.

Thanks, I'm currently free of contract, I'm using mobile broadband for internet access at the moment but it's proving very expensive and my speeds are rubbish.

So far O2/Be ADSL2+ are favourites, I can't afford to stay on mobile BB much longer. Think I'll sign with O2 (LLU) ADSL2+, maybe they'll allow migration to FTTC later on, whenever it becomes available on their network.
