Since no-one's mentioned it ... my son noticed BT were hanging around this week, and today I noticed them out in the road so popped out for a chat, hoping that it related to the fibre deployment on Chandler's Ford (STCFORD) which had been announced earlier in the year.
I'm in Knightwood park and got a chance to briefly chat to one of the Openreach guys.
They're pulling in new fibre from the exchange it seems, to go to new DSLAM cabinets which will be installed in the area over around the next four weeks.
It sounded as if the whole area/system will be operational by around mid August.
So this will give us FTTC at up to 40 Mbps downstream / 10 Mbps uptime... time to start looking out for ISPs as BT Broadband is not my cup of tea.
For our area this is a significant 8x boost from 5/1 which is about the fastest one can get at ~4.7km distance, but for those close to the exchange it's no such a big improvement. Shame it's not "proper" FTTH at potential Gbps speeds
