Im thinking of buying my first tablet: an Ipad 2 with Wifi + 3G. Im looking at the plans on Three: http://www.three.co.uk/Mobile_Broadband/iPad/iPad_2_... Opinions welcome!
A more general query: how fast is 3G Internet? My only experience this far is via my Kindle, which is amazing but obviously doesnt give a complete picture.
Thanks!

Fast enough to watch live video if in the right locations...and that is the key location.
In central london I can get 3G+ but sometimes still get Edge or GPRS once I create the data connection.
Oddly at places like airport lounges I found the free wifi so congested that the 3G was a lot better.
There are download meter apps in the App store, which track usage levels which are handy to know.

Hi Phil & Andrew,
Thanks for your answers. Three seem to be the market leaders. I wonder whether instead of buying an Ipad with a 3G allowance/contract Id be beter investing in a mifi dongle like this : http://threestore.three.co.uk/broadband/?mifipayg=1&... and use it for other devices as required. Would speeds be the same?

Pretty much the same speeds since wifi exceeds 3G speeds.
Have used a MiFi and found it was more reliable in areas where congestion was really bad, as rather than add to the CPU load of the laptop, it sat there happily handling all the hassle from the signal.
Check what battery life of the mifi is, you'd want this to be better than the portable device ideally.

mifi is a good idea, or a Three android phone that acts as a hotspot
you can blu-tack mifi to a window if the signal is dodgy, then the wifi covers inside the room. You can run them on the mains too.

Thanks for the info on speeds and coverage, Andrew. Decisions....

I wouldn't opt for the Android but the mifi/bluetack really has appeal! Cheers, Phil.

Look at buying the iPad upfront. It usually works out cheaper.

Thanks It's quite an outlay and the pennies do count....
