Work on Virgin Media network or cable thieves!?

My wife has reported there are lots of unmarked vans in the area, and they appear to be stripping out lots of cables from the green virgin media cabinets that would all be linked back to the nearest optical node further down the road.

Any idea what they might be doing? Nothing in roadworks.org, postcode is BR6.

If barriers are up for safety then activity should show up on http://www.roadworks.org and if theft the rapid loss of service to many would be obvious to Virgin Media immediately.

If activity looks very dodgy there is police, and by dodgy that can range from clearly theft, to obstruction of pavement/road etc

The did that near us when they upgraded the network to digital.

The coax was over 20 years old and most of the ducts were full of mud and ants!

It was fun when they tried to pull new coax for us and realised that the contractors had just snipped the cables off in the pits and not actually pulled the cables from the ducts!

They are probably replacing kit inside cabinets as part of bandwidth upgrades. Some networks are completely full and have no room for more broadband / TV.

I did wonder if that might be the case, but assumed that any upgrades would only require changes at the powered cabinet, rather than the passive cabinets.

I'm not on VM, just interested in what they might have been doing.

The other cabinets aren't passive. They are powered too.
