ADSL24 line rental

[link to this post]

i have noticed that ADS24 is now going to have some sort of package with broadband and line rental, I hope that don't mean they are going to try and put people on fully unbundled system/

Two many ISps are trying to get people to have packages, nothing wrong if that is what you want, but not when you just want it all separate

found out the answer to this via ADSL24 directly.
It seems like there is a bit of a delay anyway, but it looks like it will be fully LLU, in that case I will stay as I am.

It's simply another package we will be offering to reduce customer's monthly bills. If we are able to offer customers who require a bundled service for a better price than they are paying for line rental and broadband separately at present, we need to offer this as an option rather than lose that customer to TalkTalk or similar smile

Adsl24,

I checked your web site the other day and for my exchange (market 2 - TT LLU only) you were only offering up to 8Mbps adsl1 on IP Stream.

Will you be expanding your LLU deal to include market 2 exchanges that only have Opal/CPW as the LLU provider?

Hi,

We're 99% done on our line Opal rental & broadband service so yes, within the next few weeks we will be able to offer ADSL2+ on any Opal exchange as we take wholesale from them, so it's unfiltered and not rate limited etc.

Will you be offering partial LLU (SMPF) also or will it be full LLU (MPF) only?

The SMPF stuff is through TalkTalk only which we don't provide as it's not cost effective. We can provide an Opal line rental + broadband package for less than just the TalkTalk broadband cost and the TT SMPF service is not as good. Plus, our BT packages would probably be cheaper which defeats the object.

Will your opal service be completely unlimited or will there be a FUP, I will hopefully also have the c&w service available when open reach sort it out. What are the uploads on these products going to be?

Not unlimited yet, that will cost quite a bit more. Even Talk Talk cap the usage - can't have everything for a cheaper monthly fee I guess smile

Upload is usual, 1Mb etc, basically it's an ADSL2+ connection.

Hi James,

Fair Point i'm currently on an opal connection with another reseller and looking for little more usage than they currently offer, will you be using a FUP or hard usage caps & can you state any rough figures for them if so.
Will there be a premium or low contention version available?
Also is your C&W service completely uncapped & customisable as in SNR margins and FASTPATH (or at least a drop on correction available)??

Thanks

So is this new service based on the Talk Talk network then?
I think I will stay as I am to be honest, the service works fine and I think the quality of the cable and wireless network is far better than Talk Talk from what I have seen

On the CW platform we don't have any SNR control and interleaving can't be completely turned off, but the latency can be lowered. On The Opal, we have full control of the profile, so SNR of 6-15dB and Interleaved/Fast path - instant changes.

The CW services is completely uncapped, as zyborg47 will confirm I'm sure.

Can't give the usage detail out just yet but we're almost ready to go with it.

What package are you on at present?

[re: zyborg47] [link to this post]

It's based on the Opal/CPW network yes, but it's simply using the MSAN equipment at the exchange, it doesn't go in to their network or is not traffic managed in any way, just like how we do the CW service. The only difference is that line rental is included, and it's not unlimited at this time. We do have more control over the interleaving and snr on the Opal platform too. Both networks are pretty reliable to be honest, I couldn't say one is better than the other.

One thing I will say is that it should not be associated with the "TalkTalk" retail product as it's nothing like that (which is cheap as chips anyway so a lesser service is to be expected) smile

i am on ADSL24 cable and wireless service and yes it is fully uncapped, no traffic management either, so you download what you like at the speed you get.

As James said there is no way to change SNR or fastpath, But not a problem for me to be honest as I don't play loads of games. But saying that a mate of mine who is on the same network, but with a different ISp do play a lot of games, download a load of stuff from steam and have no problem with the lack of fast path, mind you the lucky so and so do get 16Megabits

Hi James,

i am currently on a package which gives me a 100GB FUP via a reseller, this does as i understand from the isp have some flexibility if i happen to run over a little, i would be looking for maybe a larger limit like 150GB with a little grace if i happened to creep over or a off peak period which either has a larger limit or no limit would be great smile

The C&W option should also be open to me very soon (i hope) as my exchange WWYEOV has the equipment apparently installed just awaiting a test completion, so demon say, can you confirm this or shed any light on when this may happen??
I do have a net gear router available to me with the DGT Firmware so SNR would not be a problem when using that router i wouldn't imagine.

Many Thanks

I'll be honest and say that our pacakge will be 50GB peak usage but with unlimited off-peak usage, which is midnight-8am and well weekend. Therefore you could use as much as you like during off-peak, so all your downloads could be scheduled for off-peak whist still having the full 50GB in weekday times.

Is your 100GB package full LLU (MPF: adsl + line rental?)

Hi James,

Thats very good news for myself as i don't have any issues with overnight downloads and the free weekends is a massive bonus.

I am currently on SMPF.
I would look to have another line put in just for the broadband, Do you know what connection charges will be for new lines?
Will your line rental have a minimum amount of calls that must be made from the line like BT or can it just be used as and when needed or not atall?

Many Thanks

At present we will only be able to migrate lines to the Opal MPF platform, but new lines coming soon. One option is to order a bt line and cheap broadband with us (new BT line with us is £79 on a 1 month contract), and then we can migrate you for free to the Opal service. And no, there is no minimum calls required, you don't even need to use the line for calls if you only need the broadband.

James,

Would the new BT line be the unused pair that comes to, for example, an external junction box on one's premises and a second nte5 connected to that?

That new line would be allocated a different number and connected to the Opal MPF kit (full LLU) at the exchange when available right?

Initial price would be £79 for the new BT line and a phone/broadband full LLU deal on a package similar to "C&W Home" on a one month contract with a £49 set up fee. Or what exactly is this "new bt line... £79...cheap broadband...1 month contractmigrate...for free...to Opal... " arrangement?

Currently you are not offering full LLU at my market 2 exchange where the only LLU provider is Opal/CPW. Guess new lines are coming soon...

Hi

BT would use an available unused spare pair from any incoming drop wire, so it would not affect your existing line, and yes it would be a brand new number. The only thing is that to migrate the line to the Opal network it needs an active ADSL service on the line, so you would need to sign up to one of our other broadband packages for a month before switching over. You could save on the broadband activation fee by signing up to the C&W 12 month package which has free setup, then pay the £25 exit fee to migrate away in the 12 month contract smile, so in total £25 rather than £49 setup. Then the migration to Opal MPF is free also.

We will be able to provide the Opal service at any exchange where they have equipment present, regardless of market 1/2/3 etc.

We wouldn't charge a BT wholesale cease fee as you would be migrating away, not ceasing. In the same way we don't charge existing customers if they move to a TalkTalk MPF service (as saddening as them leaving to go to TalkTalk may be!)

James,

I mean a cessation of broadband fee on the current line before switching to broadband on the new line and having broadband/phone with you. That would be a £25 cessation of broadband charge by BT, then a charge for new line at £79. That would be followed by a £25 set up fee using your "cheap" broadband and migration to Opal MPF arrangement.

It's starting to look expensive and rather complex to me smile

Errm!

If you migrate the current broadband to vivaciti, you could go straight to the final package you want, without going through the C & W one for a month. Much less hassle, and no cancellation or exit fees anywhere.

As for the second line, BT will install that (phone only) for £30 on an 18-month contract.

I wonder if vivaciti would cover the cost of a new second line and broadband activation on that line if one went full LLU on some sort of contract?

That way the only addition cost would be a cessation of broadband on the current line for £25.

Bob,

£78 for a new second line, £48 for activation, about £30 for unlimited broadband and line rental on a one month contract with vivaciti LLU.

So a second line installation on a BT contract would be cheaper than £78...all this not forgetting the cessation of the broadband fee of £25 on the current line though if required.

If your exchange have Bulldog, then you can also go for the cable and wireless network as it is the old bulldog network.

you may be better off on the Cable and wireless network than Talk Talk, but it depends on how much you want to pay, the Cable and wireless network is not fully unbundled.

No chance. They are working on very fine margins anyway and these costs are what they get charged. I don't think they even have a markup on installation charges. That way the only addition cost would be a cessation of broadband on the current line for £25.
My way the only additional cost is £30 and dead simple, so why not do it?

Of all the deals going on SMPF and MPF, at the moment, it looks like vivaciti comes out best for my needs.

Going for a new second BT line isn't realistically on the cards, but it is worth bearing in mind if at some point the current line becomes completely untenable for adsl.

Not as confused as me...lol!

The little deal that I've also got going with 3 for mobile broadband is so straight forward in comparison: just over a fiver a month for 1GB of data, HSPA+ speeds (~4Mbps down and ~1.6Mbps up) is no mither, although subject to slow downs due to traffic and a bit pricey for data, however no landline is required smile
