Probably between now and 9pm on the 30th tongue.

To be more serious, it's entirely dependent on when Openreach have scheduled an engineer visit to the exchange.

We do send an email out when completed, but at some stage throughout the day, you will loose your internet and a short while after that, your router will re-connect, then you just need to login and put your new username and password into your router and that's it!

Unless you gave notice to terminate specifically on 28 November, no they won't cut you off.

Bit sad it hasn't happened yet though. Going into the next day is extremely rare, so there is still hope.

Remember if it happens tonight, don't go looking for the best speed until daylight.

Well on Zens cancellation portal there is a due date that I left blank, this has now been filled in by Zen as today. The notes say Cease date received from BT as today and Viva wholsaler gave me the same date for activation. So it looks like it's a BT screwup.

In theory it shouldn't be possible to be connected at the exchange to both, but I'm sure it happened to someone about a year ago. (It often happens on BT Wholesale migrations as those are just a swap of authentication and the new one can be up before the old one is deleted, but this is different).

Trouble is, if you stay on now you could have Zen internet until things get sorted, but if you try the new login and it fails you almost certainly wouldn't be able to get back on the Zen one as they will have closed the account frown.

Just have to wait and see I suppose. Are vivaciti support contactable? I thought they went 24/7 a few months ago.

I tried the new router details this morning but no go about 9am. I sent Viva a ticket but no reply yet. Wonder if I should call them. Brian from Zen Service Provision said there is physical wiring to do in the exchange when swapping to TT equipment so was expecting some downtime and would imagine that's a daytime job. AFAIK Viva support is 24/7 but I think it's a one man band ie Karl. But doubt Openreach are open 24/7. Will chase in the morning. Only thing that has changed on my line is ping has gone up 5ms on TBB ping monitor at 9am.

Yes, that's what happens; your line has to be re-jumpered from the BTW MSAN to the TalkTalk one, so logic says there must be a disconnection.

Good luck anyway, I'm sure all will be well soon smile.

True, but when you do get though to them the service is normally far better than what you get from the larger companies and their out sourced customer service.

I 2would rather wait until the next day and get someone who knows what they are doing than someone there and then who only reads from a script.

Our support desk is open 24x7 but the provisioning desk is not and that is due to all the suppliers only having an office hours support desk so even if you could call our support desk a 3 in the morning, they would not be able to do anything until the morning when the carriers start work.

Speeds seem to be about 17mbit down when getting files from good servers. Have noticed with the st546v6 you can tweak down to 1db using DMT which gives a sing of about 19.5 mbit but FEC errors really ramp up quickly with a few CRC errors per min.

So far am sync'ing at just under 19 mbit at 2db and its dark with only 0.5 db variation to 2.5db on that. Not going to get much more out of it. Wonder what the 7800 would do. Dont want wireless no need for it but even the wired 7800 aint cheap and mostly out of stock. Will have to keep eye open.

Vivaciti Mini Review

[re: Banger] [link to this post]

Speeds seem good on the o-bit network. Getting 16.5 mbit from LA and NY in the US according to speedtest.net and this seems to hold any time of the day. Port 8095 is seriously throttled during the day (8-6pm) but testing with port 80 gives good consistent speeds throughout the day. Will reserve judgement on speeds for a few weeks but no sign of the Zen peak slowdowns I used to experience down to 1 mbit.

P2P is throttled throughout the day and there seems to be an amount of throttling out of peak hours with the TBB speedtest on port 8095 down to 10 mbit out of peak hours. If you do a lot of P2P, which I dont or NewzBin, especially during the day, this package is not for you. If you do alot of browsing and standard downloads on standard ports I would totally recommend this Variety package.

Theres also free webspace and email with this package but you have to apply for that and once it is set up the cpanel has loads of options for FTP, webspace, loads of email addresses.

Only thing I cant get used to is no usage counter, I know it's a 100Gb FUP with no penalty but will have to rely on DU Meter for my usage stats.

Last but not least my ST546v6 has held 2db over night quite admirably giving me a sync of 19mbit. FEC errors have slowed down considerably, which is a releif as the router tends to reboot in the 10s of Millions of errors. Why do you need to count FEC's anyway! Oh well maybe time for a Billion 7800 with IPv6 support.
