My change is the data allowance... or lack of a peak cap whichever way you want to look at it. I was with Enta ans so was at the same price. Im just so sick of being told that I need to be grateful for having what is apparently a relatively slow speed for the UK and that is only by a fluke - BT wont invest here and seem relucatant to even maintain the local loop to a decent standard.... too busy flinging upgrade after upgrade at selected spoiled areas.
Im still where I was to a great extent, although the "Good time speeds" are maybe 2 meg faster, the slow down is almost as radical, a couple fo days back we had podcast downloads that were crawling... up from an average of a couple of minutes to over half an hour (No thruput figures are given by iTunes for this) but the same podcasts that are downloaded each week - there are 20 podcasts from 11 different sources, and while they did not all update that week the ones that did were ALL taking an noticably longer time to download - indicating to me that the issues are not with the "source server". this wasnt an "oh it isnt quite finished" thing... we couldnt believe how slow this was - despite now being on a faster service.
I want to make this clear that I dont believe this is a "Vivaciti issue", Ive had problems here for a long time, maybe one day Openreach will put in a proper fix and actually do the job right - but excuse me if I dont hold my breath waiting! Considering how many lines exist purely to support braodband - I know of over a dozen - it is time that the BT group accepted that the local Loop needs to be properly maintained to ensure that the service is as good as is technically possible for the individual line, because without broadband there would be a far lower uptake of landlines. The lines should be fit for purpose - and that includes our old friend "using reasonable skill and care" in the provision and maintainance of lines. Most of the people who trumpt that lines only have to support voice are the same people with good quality services in areas that are spoiled for choice.
When will OFCOM get out of bed with BT and start looking after the consumer on this one?

I know a lot of this wont be popular amongst some here but then they are often the ones with better maintained services and infrastructure where investment has happened. If I wanted a poor service id sign up to a supercheap bundle or sky connect or 02 access (I have an option to take either as an exsiting customer in an "off net" area) but I understand that the cheaper options are not going to meet my expectations, and while I realise we are off Bt groups investment radar both in terms of WBC and Fibre (and it seems maintainance) I do expect my line to be capable of the "best effort" for its length and at the moment that ISNT happening, and hasnt done for along time. I'm afraid "you have a connection what more do you want?" isnt a good enough attitude from the supplier of the local infrastructure,
