Re: Does my line have issues?

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

This morning I awoke to a line that had Sync but no connection. after filter and router swaps Vivaciti escalated the issue to second line and by lunch time it was back in service.

Have now set up another 2wire with the old 6.1.1.48 firmware and looked up poisoning the Provisoning DNS, so with luck my router will remain as I want it, not be borked by BT's buggy 6.3.x.x firmware.

Podcasts seem slow today tho.

Well that Borked it! Came back with a 10000Kps+ sync, but swapping out router mid afternoon yesterday took me south of that. Had some wireless issues this morning so had another crack at the router and ended up ona sync of 8505 frown

Just run a test at http://internet-speedtest.net/
Thank you for submitting your speedtest results. This will aid our technicians if you have an issue.
We recorded your speed asDownload 4933 KBits/s (616.625 KBytes/s)
Upload 838 KBits/s (104.75 KBytes/s)
Not so Impressive.

I have noted that since I raised a ticket on this line with UKFSN in January my attenuation has risen from 41.0db to 43.4..... is that something to do with being unbundled?

Its normal for your attenuation to increase by about 3db when you switch to adsl2+

Have you raised a ticket with vivaciti? If so what have they said?

I am down to 8500!! no reset on router, attenuation 35Db not moved and SNR has even reduced to 2.5Db, no reply from my ticket, ran some tests as advised,

got results varying lowest 1.6mb highest 7mb, my upload speed seems fine syncing constantly at over 1000k and speed test results giving at least 0.84.

i have a feeling we have some sort of problem at the exchange Warweezil, I should be syncing around 13000Kb at least 10000Kb, we are on same exchange but opposite sides of the town.

still awaiting a reply from Vivaciti have completed what they requested will update, also i was down yesterday too, Vivaciti advised me it was an outage at the exchange.

I also seem to be stuck at 8500sync despite that on the first day with vivaciti I saw over 10000kps. According to my router I am on Fast Path so I guess interleaving isnt an issue here.

Im starting to wonder if there are issues at Pembroke Dock exchnage that have not yet been fully rectified. They seem to have a knack of only doing half a job round here, hence my line showing a speedtest error on Enta where the BT tester couldnt determine my IP profile and no tests were being logged against my line, come to think of it that ended up as a low sync issue and was the only way to get a long term failure of BTs tester resolved to any degree at all.

I guess its ticket time - just when I dont need to be bothering about a line underperforming.

Maybe BTs boys dont like us getting more than 8 megs tongue

To answer my own question....

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

YES it does. Talked to Vivaciti today, they have put me on a 9db margin frown they say they are seeing a lot of disconnections on my line. So there goes much of my adsl2 speed gain frown

I guess that means that the fix BT put in recently hasnt sorted the underlaying issue that I am sure has been present in this line for a long time - years in fact.

What other area could you have a situation where you are expected to put up with sub standard stuff while paying for the privilege year in year out?. SORT IT OUT OPENREACH, this is beyond funny now. Ive changed everything except the copper.

This is where the network monopoly that operates in many areas does not serve the consumer.

I suppose one consolation is that we are now on a unlimited plan, and for me a cheaper plan too...??

My change is the data allowance... or lack of a peak cap whichever way you want to look at it. I was with Enta ans so was at the same price. Im just so sick of being told that I need to be grateful for having what is apparently a relatively slow speed for the UK and that is only by a fluke - BT wont invest here and seem relucatant to even maintain the local loop to a decent standard.... too busy flinging upgrade after upgrade at selected spoiled areas.

Im still where I was to a great extent, although the "Good time speeds" are maybe 2 meg faster, the slow down is almost as radical, a couple fo days back we had podcast downloads that were crawling... up from an average of a couple of minutes to over half an hour (No thruput figures are given by iTunes for this) but the same podcasts that are downloaded each week - there are 20 podcasts from 11 different sources, and while they did not all update that week the ones that did were ALL taking an noticably longer time to download - indicating to me that the issues are not with the "source server". this wasnt an "oh it isnt quite finished" thing... we couldnt believe how slow this was - despite now being on a faster service.

I want to make this clear that I dont believe this is a "Vivaciti issue", Ive had problems here for a long time, maybe one day Openreach will put in a proper fix and actually do the job right - but excuse me if I dont hold my breath waiting! Considering how many lines exist purely to support braodband - I know of over a dozen - it is time that the BT group accepted that the local Loop needs to be properly maintained to ensure that the service is as good as is technically possible for the individual line, because without broadband there would be a far lower uptake of landlines. The lines should be fit for purpose - and that includes our old friend "using reasonable skill and care" in the provision and maintainance of lines. Most of the people who trumpt that lines only have to support voice are the same people with good quality services in areas that are spoiled for choice.

When will OFCOM get out of bed with BT and start looking after the consumer on this one?

I know a lot of this wont be popular amongst some here but then they are often the ones with better maintained services and infrastructure where investment has happened. If I wanted a poor service id sign up to a supercheap bundle or sky connect or 02 access (I have an option to take either as an exsiting customer in an "off net" area) but I understand that the cheaper options are not going to meet my expectations, and while I realise we are off Bt groups investment radar both in terms of WBC and Fibre (and it seems maintainance) I do expect my line to be capable of the "best effort" for its length and at the moment that ISNT happening, and hasnt done for along time. I'm afraid "you have a connection what more do you want?" isnt a good enough attitude from the supplier of the local infrastructure,
