THe great COMS. announcement

[link to this post]

With only hours to go until the expected announcement from Paul@Coms what are people expecting?
For me I'll be expecting to be getting online tomorrow evening and probably ordering a MAC code as I can't see how they can adjust pricing to account for peoples loss of service level because of throttling, I'll be amazed if its any good news.

The trial runs until Monday. Could be the end of Monday the trial runs to, and then they have to analyse the data and decide what to do, so maybe Tuesday onwards before we know.

We'll probably get some corporate BS about how the throttle is "necessary to ensure a good level of service for all users because of a minority of users who sit on usenet and p2p all day... and a reminder that we don't port block."
"But if you'd like to pay us an extra £10 per month for an unthrottled connection..."

I'd call a 20-30kbps throttle all but port blocking in name.

Simple fact is that if they keep this throttling as it is, they have to drop their current prices to remain competitive with others who offer the same kind of service otherwise they'll have a mass migration. Or they drop the throttle. (which they wont).

Whatever, I now don't believe anything they tell us. They have already lied to us with that letter saying that as a result of the Coms takeover it wont have any "adverse affect on your broadband connection"...
A 30kbps cap isn't adverse then?
And blaming OpenDNS when it was an Enta routing problem... not to mention the complete lack of support from 'support' - "replace your router, microfilters and cabling" pfffft.

I'm expecting the announcement to be loud and clear.. "use Bit Torrent or Usenet? GTFO!"

Out of interest, how do Vivaciti keep competitive? There Family 3 package (3gb peak usage) is roughly the same as what i pay on coms for 100GB peak usage. Granted i dont think they throttle, but seems alot for 3gb and their peak hours end later

Thats what im expecting, thougt they may have an additional tariff for those that want unthrottled etc but the price will be stupid.
Why take over an ispgive all users more to use inpeak times then wonder why useage has gone up. I was more than happy with off peak 12am-8am and all weekends, why not introduce a cap on off peak?

It's like the line options we were meant to have on Feb 1st .... then it was some other date ... and now it is brushed under the carpet and forgotten.

I think the Coms way of doing things is to throw the dogs a bone every now and again to keep them quiet for a bit. But now the dogs have become rabid and hungry....

yep, I'm just debating pushing the button to move isp myself, been holding on, and Paul did ease my browsing for me as it was slow (I'm a standard user no p2p etc) but tbh I'm fed up with not hearing anything and everything just being pushed back and back timewise

The way we have been treated by Coms is diabolical and completely unacceptable. The total lack of official communication, the broken promises, the stealth throttling to near port blocking, etc etc.
I was too holding off on moving as its a P.I.T.A to do and organise but enough is enough.
Its not just the moderate to heavy users they have enraged, the low users are leaving now too...
I'm surprised they'll have a business left at the rate they are going. Way to take one of the best ISPs going and totally destroy it!

Looking at their website and business at the moment, I can only assume they want to be more of a business ISP than a residential one, to tie onto what they offer now.. Why else would they go to such measures.

Yes they can probably have a few old ADSL24 users who only use the internet once a month to check their emails and have no idea they are no longer with ADSL24 anymore. But it wont be many, that kind of user is the sort who would just sign up to BT broadband because 'they have a BT phone line' etc.

ADSL24 were a niche ISP, Coms have stripped out exactly what made ADSL24 appealing.

Thats my take on this whole clusterfudge anyway.

Asus RT-N66U - FTTC via Coms (counting down the days....!) - Soon to be Plusnet Unlimited Fibre - Max Sync, 150m from the cab.

The sooner I am away from these clowns the better!
I've just had a 20 minute outage and literally 20 secs after I top up my 3 Dongle to get online to find out if its a network wide thing or a problem at my end, the connection comes back. Thanks Coms. Thats the second daily top up I've wasted because there's been a problem at your end this month.
Not to mention several gig of off peak usage that you've 'charged' to my peak allowance.
As soon as Vivaciti responds to my query, I am outta here!

The words Coms, [censored] up and Brewery come to mind.

Well still no announcement from Coms re: our declining service. But their mis-information and ignoring the facts seems to start from the top.
I have been reading on the stock exchange reports from disgruntled shareholders, having seen their investments halve in value since January. Only to get all excited Monday. about a new big contracts announcement by David Breith, which then turned out to be a sham. In fact they were apparently the same contracts he had declared back in November!
Seems we are`t the only ones being misled.

Now all migrated away to Plusnet, phoneline to follow in a few days.

Much happier now, full speed no problems.

The migration wasn't simple, kept having to prod plusnet almost every step of the way but it's all done now and working fine.

Lucky you, Paul was due to get back to me over a week ago, still no response. Given them enough chances, thought something had been done over the weekend as my p2p speeds were back up to pre coms days, but that was short lived to just a day.
