SSE Fibre Broadband settings with own router?

[link to this post]

Does anyone know what the recommend settings are for fibre broadband with SSE? Using my own modem/router box instead of the default and unsure what the config should be.

The problem could be my account password, not sure what this is .. the only thing I can find from SSE is card and it has a username/password for "Internet Security Suite" - I've no idea what this is, the username looks right [number]@ssebb.co.uk but not sure if it's the right password to use?

The username looks like the PPPoE username for SSE, so I guess the password may well be correct. Try checking your router logs for PPPoE authentication success/failure.

Sorry if this is dragging up an old thread, but I've just resolved an issue and the information maybe useful to others.

Setting up a new router (Archer VR600), I was struggling at first to get connected to my VDSL SSE broadband account. The username can be found in the old router setup, and links to other discussions suggested the VLAN ID should be set to 101.

The problem is, SSE don't share the broadband password when you sign up, it's blanked out in the settings page, and I had no other record of this. Logging into my online account, I assumed it was the same password. Wrong!

You need to call SSE, pass all the security checks, and ask them for the password for your broadband account. Worked out fine in the end and my router is working brilliantly, but a tad annoying that you can't glean this information from the old router or your online account.

I used to be with Plusnet, and I'm fairly sure the online account password and broadband account passwords were synchronised. Much simpler.

There was a time when Vodafone would not tell you these details. I only had a service from them when this policy was changed.
