Gigaclear in Uppingham - Unable to provide service

[link to this post]

Last summer (2022), Gigaclear were busy running in fibre into Uppingham High Street East, using Openreach ducting, but still causing the normal disruption through the town.

Having placed an order for one of my customers with Gigaclear in March this year. After getting the initial installation completed (OTP and fibre external junction box), the installation has been stalled with various messages back from Gigaclear and their 3rd part installers (who don't seem to talk to each other) - the key problem being that they are unable to run the connection from the DP to the premises as there is no ducting.

The existing Openreach copper infrastructure on Uppingham High Street East seems to consist of a few DP points and cabling for the surrounding properties being run along the front of the buildings - this cab be clearly seen on Google Street View (see bit.ly/47elbVL).

It seems that although Gigaclear have run fibre through the main ducts, they didn't survey the properties and figure out how they were going to provide service - so my question is, is this just incompetence, or do they get BDUK funding for having "passed" these properties?

The Gigaclear builds seem to be somewhat variable. In my rural area the planning was lacking - they planned to build a cabinet in a location where locals knew power would not be available (the transformer is already over-subscribed and others had been refused a power connection). This was raised in a public meeting - and ignored. When they eventually discovered they couldn't get power there was several months delay while they redesigned the network - but forgot to apply for wayleave for the power connection in the new location causing more delay, .
Eventually it was built, and the team connecting properties was excellent.
However, there are some local properties that still can't get a connection even though the build is supposedly complete.
I don't believe they get BDUK funding for any properties that can't order the service - so it would be in Gigaclear's interest to pay a bit more attention to the details.

I don't see what the problem is. The Openreach cable pops out the ground between the barbers and the vacant looking building next door, going underneath maybe 1m of block paving to get back to the chamber.

They would need wayleave to install their equipment on the buildings in the same way the existing Openreach service is, and this doesn't have to look any worse than what is already there.

Maybe Gigaclear haven't got any of these wayleaves in place?

The Gigaclear cable to my property is direct burial. It terminates in a pot near the edge of the property. I then ran a cable inside piping normally used for water to the router which is in my attic.
