Hey! Broadband - (Fibre Optic Cable query)

[link to this post]

Good evening all,

I have purchased a house (not moved in yet) and its undergoing renovation. The ceilings are down, walls are back to brick and floors are all up.

Hey! Broadband are the only fibre provider in my area. They have a small black box on the footpath directly outside my front door.

The plan is to join Hey! Broadband once I move in.

I want to lay the fibre optic cable in my new home while everything in the house is exposed, so I can achieve a nice finish with all cables hidden.

I would like to run a fibre optic cable from inside my home to the point outside my front door. I will not be making a connection into the black box on the footpath. However I will leave enough slack for Hey! Broadband engineers to make the connection themselves into the footpath.

So my questions are as follows:

1. What type of fibre optic cable do Hey! Broadband use?
2. If I lay the cable, can I leave both ends exposed for Hey! Broadband engineers to fit with their own connectors once I'm ready to join?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I called Hey! Broadband's technical team and they didn't have a clue.

Many thanks in advance.

Is there a fibre connector in the black box?

Did you ask Hey if they would supply you with a cable?

Gigaclear sent me a cable for a DIY install. The cable had connectors on both ends.

Better to lay ducting with a drawstring, if you know where the ends must go.

This. It's very unlikely that a provider will use a fibre cable supplied by you, so just lay some ducting and let them pull their own cable through it.

Make sure they pull through *another* drawstring whilst pulling the fibre, in case you ever want another fibre pulled through.
