Zzoomm - now the dreaded CGNAT

[link to this post]

Suddenly noticed today that my external IP for the Zzoomm service has changed to sit within the subnet - 100.70.0.0/17.

Oh f*** - The dreaded CGNAT has arrived!!

I'm not that upset really since I already tunnel most of my traffic onto another ISP but it does look like they're on a downward spiral as a result of the "merger" earlier this year.

Am I an unwanted early adopter or is this also happening in their other areas?

I am not with zzoom, so I can't answer your question. I hate CGNAT on IPv4, but I have discovered that most of the sites where CGNAT is a problem are actually available in IPv6. So, as I have IPv6 working well, I would not be too phased by IPv4 going to CGNAT. But it is poor show that they have switched you without notice, although they have done it correctly on the 100.~ range rather than on the 10.~ range.

If you didn't have CGNAT before and you're mid-contract then contact their support and raise it as a fault. It might even be a genuine mistake.

I just noticed today when I could no longer access my services remotely. My contract is up in 2 weeks so I guess I'll have to make a decision. No ipv6 support and £10 more if I want a static IP.

Not really sure where else I would match their speeds in my area.

The newer ISPs don't have much choice. They should also provide IPv6, if not, then that would be a reason to change ISP.

I’ve had IPv6 with Zzoomm for 2 years now, have you got it enabled on your router?

Oh, really?

I tried using https://test-ipv6.com/ and it couldn't detect an address, so I'm not sure where you get it.

Either I'm doing something wrong (likely) or not everyone gets IPv6.

EDIT: It was a me error as usual, I had IPv6 disabled in windows network settings for some reason.

No CGNAT here, but as been said, there is not a lot of choice with Ipv4 addresses running out, but they should tell people, not that most people will have any idea what they are on about.

As for IPv6, I have been with Zzoomm for over 2 years and I have had IPv6 since the start, I do use my own router and not theirs, but I should think IpV6 is set up from the start on theirs.

I can understand CGNAT being a pain for some people, certainly those that use game servers that don't support IPv6. But if we had done this change over years ago, we would not be in this mess.

Zzoomm for me offer the best service for the price where I am, if I drop Zzoomm then I would have to go back to Openreach network and while I really had no interest in FTTP at first, now I have it, I may as well get something that is better than Openreach at a decent price.

If you contact support and state the need for not having a CGNAT IP they will refer it to a manger who allows them to give you a free static IP.

I’ve just done this and 24hrs later all working and it shows in billing as a “ Static IP (Geolocation workaround)”
