Xilo: Inconsistent Speeds

I am getting very inconsistent speeds with Xilo. I have been with them over a month. With my previous providor (BT Broadband) even at peak times I didn't get below 3.5Mb on a 4.5Mb profile. I have reported the speed issues as a fault to Xilo, but as the speed is above the minimum fault rate, BT won't do anything. The speed will be 4-4.2Mb and then it will suddenly drop down to 1-2Mb. Does anybody know what I can do?

I recall this fault but it isn't a case of BT won't do anything as you state, they've offered the only last option which is an engineer visit.

As we've advised, we would not recommend this as from all the information provided, there is no actual fault, just congestion above the minimum acceptable rate. Whilst this isn't great, on a small number of exchanges, there can be noticeable contention but without BT speedtest results below (or nearer to 600k), they will do very little.

All the speedtest results you've given us, are well in excess of that rate which is why BT will not progress this further, or state that the VP is running "hot" to a point of causing unacceptable throughput.

Can I book an engineer visit Matt?

Yes, you can do but we've warned against it as in the ticket.

The last update was 22nd April stating that you thought everything was back to normal, which may have possibly been due to it being a non-working day, as well as being very sunny so less people were using their connections.

If you can re-update that, stating that is how you'd like to proceed, we'll be happy to do that but will stress again, what you're seeing is not a fault by BT's own definitions. We'll advise the procedure and also any possible charges that may arise from this.

Beware of BT charged you for SFI (not worth it mate)

If BT have advised the exchange is running 'hot' then the engineer will not be able to do anything. You just need to wait until BT decide it is worth resolving the issue in the exchange (timescales for this are unknown as BT tend to miss etas).
This is one of the reasons I got off a BT link and on to LLU. Currently I have a Xilo connection running over Tiscali tails and it runs at max all the time. If you can get LLU on your exchange, a migration to one of the Xilo LLU products may help (would certainly get rid of the BT exchange is 'hot' issue).

I really would avoid that.
Im with Xilo.after leaving Ukonline..but before that I was with BT.
it will cost you a small fortune just for the BT guy basically to sniff around and leave.

Im on LLU with Xilo have to be fair to the guys my speed is just getting better and better.at the moment im really hammering the line and im getting an almost constant 6.8 mb service.

Since I ditched the DEC phone its like a totally different ADSL even the drop outs have stopped.

LOL..it was so ironic.the Dec phone was knocking out my sky signal!! how that was doing that I dont know

This is getting worse now. I am getting no more than 1.5Mb all the time. As you can see from the speed tests Matt. This is not good.
