I am getting really weary of my line.
It has NEVER been totally stable - given to odd periods of resyncing at apparently random times. The line is just under 3km physical - confirmed both my BT themselves and and by tracing a very obvious (only) trunk route that was constructed with the "new" exchange (constructed by the post office to replace 2 exchanges for adjacent towns) and a new road. On ADSL2+ the line has an attenuation of 43/44db (up from 40db on 20cn) our cabinet is around 375m from here. The property is fed via duct to a pole that feeds the 20 properties in this development, the pole was installed as a replacement for ducts around 14 years ago, the pole itself was changed again last year due to a "defect" and all the connections then were interrupted (I assume they were remade at that time)
The problem has been present ever since I first had ADSL on Pipex (512K service). So count several routers, filters (hell even the computers themselves have been through several changes both in hardware and o/s). Extensions were firstly rewired in cat 5 and then removed. The problem has been present even when the router is run alone in the test socket. Pretty much every piece of electrical equipment in the flat has been changed, Last year Openreach changed the pair from the exchange to our cabinet, which if anything resulted in a slightly lower speed from the line overall.
When I first moved to Vivaciti I was recording heady speeds in the mid 8 Mb/s range, but that is a distant memory now and I am now only a little above what I was getting on 20cn with Enta, Over the last 10 days we have seen 11 resyncs, the last 2 days we have had it happening twice a day.
My question is how do I get Openreach to take this seriously? It has been looked at several times the only consistent thing with Openreach is the threat of SFI charges, Im just annoyed that they seem more keen to keep collecting money for this mouldy mess of copper without actually wanting to fix it. Router-wise I have tried a couple of Speedtouch 585v6's, several 2-wire HGV2700's and currently jave a Fritzbox 7390, Nothing has helped. The one thing I have gained is that the Fritz logs record each drop in the same manner
21.08.13 20:36:15 Internet connection established successfully. IP address: **.***.***.***, DNS server: ***,**,***.*** and ***.**.***.*** Gateway: **,***.***.***
21.08.13 20:36:04 Timeout during PPP negotiation.
21.08.13 20:35:50 DSL is available (DSL synchronization exists with 7676/1021 kbit/s).
21.08.13 20:35:36 DSL synchronization starting (training).
21.08.13 20:35:04 Internet connection cleared.
21.08.13 20:35:04 DSL not responding (no DSL synchronization).
It is always the same message - no variation.
We are currently connected at Current throughput 7676 / 1021 kbit/s
Signal-to-noise ratio dB 9 / 8
Line attenuation dB 44 / 24
That reflects a 1 db drop in downstream SNR from earlier, and a rise of 400 kbit/s according to the router - the previois "wobble" had dropped us to 72xxkbit/s
I'm hoping that some of the really knowledgeable guys here will take pity on me and give me a pointer to the possible cause that I can relay to my ISP - as the line is going through one of its more manic periods again, I will be on the phone again to them tomorrow. I have asked here before without much success, but maybe this time someone will pick up the ball for me.
