Re: ADSL24 > Coms migration. What could possibly go wrong?

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

Another ADSL24 refugee here saddened and annoyed by ADSL24 take over by Coms. I have been a very happy customer of ADSL24 for 7 years with very good and reliable service.

My migration on Monday initially didn't work until Tuesday morning following 2 support calls to resolve the problem. The reason for it not working was because Coms had not created my profile correctly. Then I noticed on Tuesday evening when I got home from work that my download speed had dropped down to approx. 15% of my pre-migration speed.

Seeing all the problems in this thread I thought I would wait it out with the slow speed. However Wednesday evening internet kept dropping and I had an average connection of 3 minutes - although I did manage a whole 30 minute up-time - wow!. I rang Coms's support who said they would look into it and then I went and did something else for the evening. Internet was back up Thursday morning and at my pre-migration speed ! However by Thursday evening it was back down to 20% of my original pre-migration speed.

On Saturday evening my connection kept dropping but then stayed up for Sunday morning. Once Sunday afternoon came along with everyone, getting up after a sleep in, looking at Facebook and cat pictures now my internet keeps dropping again.

So... I have already got my MAC and have placed an order for internet with another provider. In the meantime whilst I wait for my migration I might get out my old 56k U.S. Robotics modem which will give me a better internet experience than Coms can give me.

For info I have already replaced my micro-filter and RJ11 cable and I should have a new router delivered in a couple of days (ordered because I wanted more ports on the router). However I don't think it is my equipment at fault as it was all working perfectly before the migration.

I can't fault the support staff who have been good and pleasant, however, I have doubts on Coms network infrastructure and/or their wholesale BB providers. I really don't think it can cope with all of us from ADSL24 and I wish we had never been migrated from ADSL24's infrastructure.

Thanks goodness I have an iPad with 3G so I could write this forum post.

Personally I would not recommend Coms as an internet provider and I wish the rest of the ADSL24 refugees here good luck in getting reliable and fast internet.

~ Martin

Hi all,

Looked for a thread in the Fibre section, couldn't find one..

Any of you here who are/were on ADSL24 FTTC, have you been migrated yet? I'm on 30 Ultra and was told my IP would change, it hasn't so I assume i haven't been moved yet. i've only ever had one email from them which was ages ago and thats it, so excuse me if I've missed something....

I also cant log into 'My Account' even though i know my details are correct - tried the password reset and it sends me the email, and verifies my user name is correct, but still says "Your username and/or password is incorrect - please try again" - Thats using the password you supply on the login page. Amazing.

So I've been migrated, still cant log into my account and the 'forgotten password' password doesn't work...... :|

Hi Cruncher

Drop DanComs or myself a PM with your user details and we'll get somebody to sort it out and call you.

Thanks,
Paul

Just been on the phone to you guys, seems your forgot password link doesn't work. It was still my old password.

Which leads me onto my next question....

The girl on the phone quite happily sat there and told my my user name and password. Is that not a security issue right there?

EDIT: Can you change your password via the UCP?

Hi Cruncher,

I posed exactly the same question over the weekend. The forgotten password link worked for me but there is no way to change the password yourself. I was informed I could tell them what I wanted to have as the password and they would change it. Not my idea of a secure password.

They said this feature will be added to My Account in the near future.

Theres [censored] all secure about it... For example.....

User is silly enough (or just not as literal as some) to have same password for email, shopping whatever.
Coms CS employee takes password and email.
Try's their luck here there and anywhere.
????
Profit?

I remember telling Paul (another one?) what I wanted my password to be when I first signed up with ADSL24 over the phone. I wouldn't be surprised if it's always been like that (that is they are stored in plaintext).

I assumed you were concerned about them offering the password up without much identification via the phone...

Hi Cruncher,

I's be interested to know if the agent took appropriate steps to identify you as the account holder before giving you the information. If not then I'd appreciate a PM with the estimated time of your call and I'll pull the call recording to investigate further.

In terms of agents passing on customer data to third parties, that would be fraud which would become a police matter and therefore frown upon that kind of activity.
We are PCI compliant in the call centers and take appropriate action and controls to protect our customers data as you would expect.

Thanks,
Paul
