Re: COMS - No Service?

[re: bobble_bob] [link to this post]

Phew! Just got around to checking my Net and find it's back on, what a relief, I had visions of e7even all over again. I don't know what this was, I reverted back to their own DNS but couldn't go anywhere either, no sites would load for me. Very odd that people are saying that some sites were loading, if the DNS servers were down one would think that it would be impossible to go anywhere. It sounds like something 'selective' was put in place rather than a fault, as in garden walling.

I've been thinking of jumping ship for a time, fed up with all the hassle from what WAS the best ISP I'd ever had plus I'm having trouble with my phone company anyway... so maybe try a wireless ISP this time, get rid of landlines and all their inherent problems (especially BT's stranglehold of the so-called maintenance of them). Pity that mobile internet is still so expensive as that would be the best, take ones ISP out in ones pocket without being stuck to one physical location.

Nice to see the usual lack of response from Coms (what a dork name), to tell us what's happening.

Surprise, surprise... minutes after I made the previous post I get an update to my ticket.
They basically said it was an outage at OpenDNS (which we now know it wasn't) and that it was resolved at 9am.
Utterly useless!

Seems it was an Enta routing issue

I think opendns was partly to blame. Using coms dns and google dns helped get me back online but some sites were still down. So maybe the routing and being on opendns caused more issues than other dns servers

So pleased others had this problem again this morning. Really PEED off. No communication from Coms as usual. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!!!!!!!

First thing off a morning I have to pick up my jobs that have come in. Not able to do that AGAIN this morning.

Sorry, this is one straw too many, yet again support didnt know anything about it. Says something when Aquiss have to kindly step in and update us. Paul/Dan you should be ashamed.

PS just discovered they must have gone offline some point between midnight and 12.30am as I ftp every 20 secs to a weather station and that was reporting a failure at 12.43. Came back up between 08.40 and 09.20 If it was an Enta fault, seems like they tookm a heck of a long time to recognise there was a problem. Seems like another Coms failure to me!
