Re: SSE Fibre and VDSL modem compatibility

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I've recently signed up to SSE and have an activation date of 8th June. I'm moving from BT to SSE's Ultrafast package (£21/month).

I've just set up a forum/website where I am going to post information that would be useful to others - such as speed test results, scans of any paperwork etc in the hope that we can set up a community of SSE Broadband users - as they don't have an official forum of their own.

The address is http://www.discussisp.com

I'm hoping this will be useful to allow fellow members to share speeds, any issues and we can help each other should any problems arise. If anyone has any suggestions or can help I would appreciate it. Collating information in one place I believe is key.

Any questions please feel free to contact me.

I can't see any advantage in using that new site over this site TBH.

The best one, is he won't get banned unlike here or Plusnet, somewhere folks find a need.

Have you looked at the site?

Very odd. It's a dotcom domain, not .uk, it is discussisp but he proclaims it is for SSE specifically, so why not discusssse, and its Home page refers to SSE in its preamble but the general tone appears to be for any ISP.

I did the same swop last Thursday.
Obtained username and password from SSE two days ahead. (To keep Asus router).
Stayed in as required (on penalty of £105).
Two problems:
1. BT Openreach didn't visit the house or bother to phone to say they'd made the switch.
2. I tested the new credentials at various times during the day but without success, then contacted SSE. After a long wait I found I had been given the wrong password. It had a spurious 'A' at the beginning.
Hope this report of wasted time will save others!
Mike
PS I gather SSE also use Talktalk for their service. Frightening thought.

I guess it depends on your individual experience but reviews of Talktalk seem to me to be largely negative e.g. here

TalkTalk retail and TalkTalk Business Wholesale are very differently rated.

Many ISPs, including as has been said AAISP, are using TTB Wholesale. It seems to be rather good from both reports here from customers on the packages these ISPs provide, and the fact gthat more and more ISPs are looking at using it.

No Bob, not looked - Just gave the first positive reason for running your own site. Done it myself many times to do as I wish without having to answer to jumped up forum police, but after a while you get fed up with keeping it updated. Even being an Amazon affiliate doesn't live up to expectations unless you have a mega-site, but then you run full circle of being like the big sites and being more worried upsetting income than free speech and information.
Edit:- Just took a look - Flashbacks of most posts by 'admin' and very little in the way of replies ..... Mind-bleach time lol

smile.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles spammer signups as well. Captcha is far from all that is needed. As you have probably found.
