I'd be interested to know what is causing this. My impression is that Cityfibre GPON isn't particularly high quality, anecdotally I've seen some Vodafone users have issues too. Perhaps you have a few users hammering the upload on the PON, but while theoretically possible I'd be surprised if this was happening in reality.

In my case this is Openreach FTTP using I believe to be BT Wholesale backhaul to get to the nearest point where it can be handed over to CityFibre (was Entanet). During weekends, outside office hours or now I've realised during school holidays no issues. I'm in a residential area, and there were no problems with working day slow downs immediately prior to moving over.

So Cityfibre are retailing BTw WBC FTTP? I didn't know that was possible.

Not sure of all the details but CityFibre Partner website has:

Choose from our consumer FTTH L2TP product delivered through the CityFibre Full Fibre Network, alternatively we can supply FTTC/P, ADSL2+ and ADSL throughout the UK thanks to our strategic relationships with other carriers.

https://cityfibre.com/partners/products/broadband/of...

So I think this is only available via resellers.

No, Aquiss are using BT wholesale for FTTP via Openrach then it's handed over to CityFibre to the internet. this is CityFibres core network (not to be confused with their access network.) as Aquiss don't have their own core network.

For comparison, IDNet use TalkTalk Wholesale or Zen Wholesale for FTTP via Openrach then it's handed over to their own core network.

Interesting, I had no idea CityFibre engaged in that kind of business. You learn something every day.

Many problems come back to Openreach and communication between Openreach and their wholesale customers is, to put it politely, not as good as it might be. We have an FTTP order in with repeated install dates that never happen- now 3 and counting; one of the problems being that Openreach's sub-contractor repeatedly fails to send the correct documentation to the Highways Authority to get a road closure to put in a short run of ducting.
The application gets rejected, neither Openreach nor its sub-contractor notice and another 3 month notice delay ensues. My company has dealt with iDNet for some years and their support has been consistently good as has been the performance of their part of the network. However, neither they, Zen nor other BTW customers have much leverage with Openreach and under-provisioning in their part of the network. In changing suppliers it is important to know exactly what physical assets a particular supplier has control over.

Do you know for sure why the permits are not being approved? there could be more than one reason.

I certainly do, as my company deals with Highway Authorities, including the one for this site, for road closures we need for our own operations. In this case I called my contact at the relevant HA; an application was sent in by Openreach's sub-contractor without the required supporting documentation. The HA contacted the Openreach sub-contractor applicant pointing out that the application was incomplete. There was no reply. The HA waited, and then refused the application. The applicant then sent in documentation for the refused application and was told they had to make a new application as the previous one had been refused. the applicant did not do so. Openreach told our supplier that they had the road closure in place, but they cited the wrong HA. We attended the site, but nobody showed up (for the second time). Openreach's sub-contractor has now made a new application, but again has failed to provide the required documentation. Openreach has given our supplier another install date, which they will not be able to meet as there is no road closure for that date, nor even a completed application. My company has repeatedly asked Openreach via our supplier for details of the planned dig on our own land, as we have other services buried on site and want to be sure there will not be conflicts or damage. The request has now been ignored for 4 months.

Thanks for clarifying, it really doesn't paint a good picture of the sub-contractor nor Openreach for using them frown
