Thoughts on Community Fibre?

[link to this post]

Hi - After a few months of running cables Community Fibre are taking orders for our road and I am very tempted with their offer of a symmetric connection for £30/m.

Anyone here have any views / thoughts on their service? After talking to them the cooling off period if limited to 14 days max with a very hefty cancellation charge @ 30% / 24mo contract. So keen to hear some views from people if you have it?

Particularly interested in low-latency gaming and video-conference performance - plus ability to use your own kit instead of theirs, as the team on the phone were not sure on this one.

Many thanks!!

Ask the phone team to ask the question. You're interested but only if you can use your own kit... someone on commission might well chase that to get their payout.

Latency - the only way you'll find out is to try it - but again if you can get to speak to a techy person you should be able to satisfy yourself whether it meets your needs.

Either way, I'm guessing there's only one game in town for fibre - if they don't get the take up they'll eventually fold and you'll be waiting for Openreach.

I had Community Fibre installed this week. I'm not sure which tariff you refer too @£30/month as they currently advertise 1GB each way for £25/month on a 24 month contract on their website. A12 month contract is a few pounds a month more.

So far, mine seems fine and the installers were excellent - putting the ONT exactly where I wanted.

You can use your own kit.

If you want me to tracert/ping somewhere for you, let me know.

They are also currently offering a £100 Amazon voucher if you are referred by an existing customer.

Many thanks for the replies. I also went with it in the end and so far very happy. Could easily beat the £100 voucher offer by buying through a comparison site, so £25/mo for 1G sync is brilliant!
One update for any others looking - the cancellation charges are whopping... at least 50% of remaining term of contract to cancel (reduced slightly if you are moving house). So be very sure before you commit!

could you run a tracert or ping google.co.uk, amazon.co.uk and microsoft.com?

Would love to get an idea of your gaming pings and those are generally the main server hosts for the most popular games.

If the service isn't being delivered, then CF would be in breach of contract and none of the early termination rules would apply. As long as you are happy with the price for the contract term and are happy to write some complaint letters in the event of an ongoing service issue then you have nothing to worry about.
