Ugh looks similar to my latency from Derry N.Ireland, was hoping youfibre would be lower latency but doesn't look like it would be.

Getting 13-15ms to London

I'm in Wakefield and go via Manchester.

Ah, not sure on what route they take for Derry, but I'm guessing it would exit MAN? Msybe Jeremy can show some core latency from Derry to MAN or LDN

Hey. I can't add much more than what we have already discussed over email but I will go over it again here again for clarities sake.

The latency on the Netomnia (the access network) piece of the network is 1-2ms. That will be comparable / better than your FTTC latency with Zen. You are measuring latency from your home to Thinkbroadband. Thinkbroadbands network sits behind/within NetConnex (https://www.peeringdb.com/net/580) who are only available in Telehouse datacentre in London. We are present at Linx London, Wales, Scotland and Manchester and Linx London is the only place we receive advertisements for NetConnex. I stand to be corrected on any part of that, but it's what I can see based on BGP advertisements for the prefixes I see probes going to on those latency graphs of yours. So using Thinkbroadband alone to say whether our network has good or bad latency compared to another is in some ways misleading, you're purely judging the latency to Netconnexs network in Telehouse London.

Hi All,
Just thought I would reply to this, an alternative site similar to Thinkbroadband's latency monitoring tool is: f8lure.mouselike.org

It works as well and does have some direct peering exchange points in LINX LON1, Manchester, Scotland. I will say I can't guarantee which interconnect facility the site is hosted at, as iomart hosting have a large number of facilities.

I will also say that in practice on Virgin Media's network I do notice a difference between Think broadband, and this service as well as for example Samknows whitebox.

It's worth noting you can set up a samknows docker for free, samknows has a wide range of UK and international based servers.

Like stated above please be mindful that this is only an indicator of latency to one service and is subject to third party factors.

The best way to measure latency is with a tool like NirSoft's ping info view allowing the pinging of multiple servers at once allowing a better idea of overall performance.

Just thinking out loud smile thats the frontend website for f8lure, are you sure the associated FireBrick hardware is on the same network?

That's a fair point, I should double check I know one of them is hosted at rapidswitch which if i remember correctly is in the same network but will check

AAISP is the second check let me also check details

After checking, the AAISP hosted option it looks to use LINX LON1, LON1, LON2 and LONAP all at 10G

Looks like the interconnect facilities are equinix london and plusant maidenhead

On the plus side, still at LINX so wasn't far out.
https://www.peeringdb.com/asn/20712

For the other one, I will have to do some further digging as it is not jumping out at me quickly, and I don't feel like doing a deep dive at this time.

After looking at the second IP it looks to be with Cloudflare, at this point I can't really see more than that, since its Cloudflare there are a lot of public peering exchanges and interconnects so its hard to pinpoint exactly whats going on at this stage at least without doing more research.

Many Thanks,

Samknows seem to want paying.

https://samknows.com/technology/agents

Request that your SamKnows account manager add your DockerHub account to our organisation.

We will provide you with a one-line command to install the Docker agent.

Once your agent has been installed and started up, we will add your new agent to your SamKnows One account and you can assign it a test schedule.

I hope that answers your query, and as I mentioned to you directly we are working on this but it's not simple and will potentially not be quick. ISP networks evolve as time goes on, I firmly believe it's important we provide stability and speed to our customer base and it's what we are always working to achieve and improve. That graph of yours will improve.

Every ISP network ever gets built to get folks online then gets modified to scale better, though not necessary well, to handle the increased customer base then, maybe, gets optimised.

Some obviously don't get to the third stage but you folks seem to know what you're doing so look forward to seeing the results smile
