Ah, not sure on what route they take for Derry, but I'm guessing it would exit MAN? Msybe Jeremy can show some core latency from Derry to MAN or LDN

Given the most direct fibre route on, well, every carrier goes via Manchester it would seem highly likely that you'd have an exit at Manchester and would, as required, be carried on YouFibre's network to London.

They don't dump folks off at Manchester or London compulsorily, it depends on the routes they're receiving from the outside world and how they choose to treat them. If they can connect directly to the provider of whatever you're trying to reach in Manchester it's likely a good idea for them to send you on your merry way there, if they connect with the provider in London only it makes sense for them to carry you on their network, and if they don't connect directly at either then the wonders of BGP and routing protcols will do their thing.

I've been really happy with YouFibre. I was with Zen previously but, although the stability and service were great, I was stuck with ADSL with speeds of about 17/1.

Not wanting to go with Virgin, I was elated to discover that Netmonia/YouFibre were coming to town. I've been with them since the start of June and it's been rock solid (although I'm not a huge fan of the router - but it does its job).

I consistently get a bit more than the 150/150 I'm subscribed to which suits me fine.

Talking latency, I noticed that this rose last Wednesday just before 2pm from around 2ms to around 13/14ms.

Although it didn't affect anything for me, I rebooted/reset everything to see if it was something at my end (to no avail).

Good news, having been looking at this thread, I've also signed up to the mouselike monitor. At 11.48am this morning, both it and the ThinkBroadband monitor have observed my latency dropping back to 2ms.

I would recommend YouFibre to everybody!

To expand on this, peering etiquette is that you carry traffic on your own network as close as you can to the destination, and in turn everybody else peered with you does the same thing. So if you're peered with a network in Manchester as well as London and reaching a service hosted in London, you carry that traffic to London, you don't dump it out onto the 3rd party network at Manchester and have them carry it back for you.

But unless you are making separate announcements for "my Manchester netblocks" and "my London netblocks" to your peers (and them to you) you're not going to get the desired shortest routing.

Tag it with a community string when it enters your core from access network and have a route map that prepends the AS path to prefer each group as necessary. Simples!

Hi All,
Happy to announce the service is now in, there were a few unforeseen issues with Openreach's ducting but were resolved so that's the main thing.

To summarise, the installation had to be completed to a different CBT due to my duct going in another direction to the Openreach plans, however once it was finally found to go to a chamber in a different direction the cable was able to be puled through, the cable run was very substantial due to the unforeseen ducting, over 150M however the YouFibre team were able to get the cable in which ultimately led to the service being installed a few days later.

(I'm sure everyone here knows that plans are only as good as the person who put the data in my area it seems that both my neighbours don't have ducts on paper and all the cables come out of my UG feed, we found out there are 3 feeds and ducts so maps were updated).

The install itself was simple, as the cable was pre run, the engineer was able to drill out from the coms corner (where the Openreach FTTP, Virgin Media Cable service is) and install a Adtran XGSPON ONT, they are slightly bigger then the Openreach ONT's as I will attach in a picture later however not excessively large.

The engineer drilled in to out and used the appropriate cable and guide to cover the hole. The bring was not damaged which surprised me as every time I have drilled through have sprayed it so was impressed.

The engineer then spliced and fitted a Splice trey next to my Openreach Splice tray.

The router itself, I was given the option between the Eero and Aris, I was advised the Aris is better for IP configuration from web portal so opted for that, it also seems that it had extremely good WiFi speeds over in excess of 700Mbps up and down which for an ISP router is extremely impressive.

I hadn't tested Ethernet as I removed it in favour of mine.

I did remove the ISP provider router to use my own, I have a TP LINK OMADA ER7206V1 Gigabit router.

With Ethernet I get bang on 930+ Mbps down, the upload varies a bit as my CPU is a bit underpowered for this level of service.

To get the Router to work I set the WAN port to Dynamic IP and didn't bother with MAC Spoofing of the ISP router as it seems that the Adtran didn't require it for my static IP like other guides specify.

I then changed bandwidth control from 100Mbps to 940Mbps on the up and down and then all worked a treat.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will try and answer as soon as possible.

I will attach pictures later as I don't have any right now.

Many Thanks,
RR-THE-IT-GUY

Hi. I'm glad to hear that your install went well.

I have the Adtran XGSPON ONT with YouFibre as well as a static IP address.

I too have the Arris router but would like to use my Fritzbox to see how well it performs.

Am I likely able to try a different router without having to contact them with MAC addresses and suchlike?

Thank you.

Hi There,

I didn't contact them at all for any MAC address changes, so it seemed to just work, my advise is plug it in on DHCP mode with IPv6 disabled (as I don't believe they support it yet unless I am mistaken) ande see what happens, I know anything over 500Mbps gets intense on the firewalls CPU's

My approach is try it and see what happens, if it brakes you can always put it back on the Arris.

Many Thanks,

Nice, glad it's all up and running.

Any chance you can share your BQM? Saw someone post one on twitter recently and it looked pretty poor, so just interested in seeing another Youfibre one given I'm going with them shortly.
