Nice, glad it's all up and running.

Any chance you can share your BQM? Saw someone post one on twitter recently and it looked pretty poor, so just interested in seeing another Youfibre one given I'm going with them shortly.

Hi, Both my BMQ's are in the signature below, some third party ones I also have are attached.

Let me know if you would like some samknows data etc and am happy to provide.

Edit

Want to re-emphasise that IDNet was failover and being canceled in under one month hence why no yellow peek spies.

I use YouFibre as the main connection, hence why there are spikes under load

Many Thanks,

I'm a pillock! Thanks laugh

[Edit]

Actually, what sort of load are you putting on it. Looks quite spiky.

My EE FTTP for comparison: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...

For me, it takes a large file download to cause a spike. Just streaming video/music or general web use does nothing. My pfsense box is a bit overpowered though!

No worries

At the moment the bandwidth control does not work as expected due to my configuration so need to be reviewed, also ICMP is not prioritised on my firewall so its always like that hence why i'm not surprised.
I might set up the QOS properly, when i get a chance to see if that helps.

Some sustained periods of uploading recently in excess of 300Mbps and still flat.

Then there are some spikes of 150+Mbps when I log into devices for the initial device Sync up to various cloud systems and device management systems that re-download scripts and polices / updates on each startup (as its the only way I know how to deploy certain policies with the systems I use to patch the house)

I do have in excess of 40 devices that constantly use the network in some form or another, normally in sharp bursts. e.g. Samknows whitebox that does various testing, Web Server, Speedtest server (that is internet facing)

Here is the old IDNet connection under my use.

IDNET 20-10-2023

21-10-2023

22-10-2023

Let me know if you need anymore but it is all the same I have quite high usage so that's why there are spikes. I do also have a client to Site VPN which gets a lot of usage.

Many Thanks,

Thanks for all that, icmp priority/qos is probably the biggest culprit and compared to many BQMs it's decent anyway, nice low ping. I think with anything with such small margins it varies so much based on kit, usage etc that without trying it you never get a real idea. Youfibre are meant to be live in my neck of the woods in December, so I'll get to find out what it's like myself!

Absolutely, I know I don't throttle my network in any way unless the bandwidth usage is over 80% for extended periods and its obviously unlikely that I will be hitting 800Mbps sustained for more than seconds unless its some big update.

Just wanted to update this thread with my own YouFibre BQM now that they're live here.

Install was a bit painful, requiring 3 visits due to Openreach or Netomnia not listing the pole as requiring a cherry picker, but everyone involved was great and it was still done in the same (long) day. They're still tying service to the first MAC address they see and the installers wouldnt hook my kit up until they'd gotten screenshots of the Eero 6+ working, so I had to spoof its MAC (handy hint: spoof it then restart the ONT otherwise it won't play nice)

Live just after 6pm:
https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...

Previous EE FTTP for comparison: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...

Not a whole lot in it, but the lack of PPPOE on YF is probably helping keep the jitter incredibly flat. 945/940 on speedtests, too for almost half the price of EE's 900/110 service!

It's interesting to read that you had to spoof it, I didn't need to do any MAC address spoofing and can just swap router without issue, do you know what ONT you got, I would have to look up which model mine is to be sure.

Many Thanks,

Yeah the spoofing would have to be done if there were a live DHCP lease. The leases are now an hour so not too long to wait regardless. Nothing to do with the ONT this one, all about the OLT and whether the exchange had been migrated to the new network. If it hadn't the DHCP leases were a lot longer back then.

Ah OK, I know I am in one of their "new build" areas so it is likely why, I'm currently working with Seb in another thread to investigate some odd behaviour on the upload speeds.
