Swish to Cuckoo minimum term removed

[link to this post]

Hi,

We had swish installed in the spring (thrown in, I have a replacement fiber run from them to redo at some point on the side of the house), which once they sorted teething issues has been fine & is a decent service for the price, they recently transitioned us to Cuckoo (which was a weekend of outages), this then came through on email:

Just a quick message from us here at Cuckoo, to let you know that so we can ensure a smooth transition of your service, we’re removing any minimum commitment period from your contract. That means you may cancel your contract by giving us 30 days’ notice and will not have to pay an Early Release Fee (ie fees for ending your contract before your minimum period has expired).

Have no intention of terminating early (at least while openreach aren't doing symmetrical services, 1g upload is really handy for backing stuff up), but quite surprised they've done this, anyone else had it?

A quick google produced this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/HelmsleyMoan/posts/9...

It looks like there is a consolidation program in progress which has been botched and Cuckoo, if they know who their customers are, probably don't know what they are contracted to provide for those customers and are unlikely to be able to resolve issues in a timely manner. If Cuckoo had only taken over the Swish concern in the legal sense, but were maintaining Swish operations for a managed migration, you could be fairly sure that they would be enforcing contracts.

I'm also a Swish customer who's recently been migrated to Cuckoo. I'm out of contract so didn't get that email but did get a similar one recommending taking out a new 24 month contract, with a reduction in price of £9/month. I'm considering it, but am waiting for confirmation that my static IP will be retained and remain unchanged. Of course, I also asked about IPv6, which still doesn't seem to have an ETA...

I'm pretty happy with Swish - have only had to contact support once, due to a faulty ONT, something that coincided with the outage over the weekend of 14/15 June. I contacted Swish support then, rather than Cuckoo, and the ONT was swapped out pretty quickly on the morning of the 17th.

We're paying £42/month with static IP - be interested if they offer you anything better, our address isn't properly covered on Cuckoo's site as yet - only offers openreach products.

I believe APFN (the company who now own the Swish network) are about to gain a new consumer provider that will offer IPv6 and all the other good stuff smile (not sure if I'm allowed to mention them by name yet or if they want to stay in "stealth mode")

Interesting, I'd hoped Zen would pick them up as they did with City...

I'm currently paying £44, with static IP. The offer is:

£35.00/month
From 1 April 2026 £38.00/month
From 1 April 2027 £41.00/month

They haven't replied to my email yet, but I'm assuming my offer includes a static IP. I'll update once I've received an answer.
