My thoughts on Impartiality

I don't know the guy and I wish him well but I am curious that no one else sees any problem with this or do and haven't said anything.
-----------------------------

I don't know him either and personally couldn't care less where Plusnet get their employees from, it could be from PUG or Disneyland and it makes no difference.

It does however give me a few thoughts.

1) PUG - I recently posted on here to suggest that they werent exactly impartial - Hmmmn.

2) I know that if the guy is prepared to live and breathe Plusnet first, put everything else in his life to the back of that then he will likely get on fine there.

3) If he doesnt do (2) he'll no doubt be on here like a few others telling it like it really is and may set up upthejacksy.com or something equally appropriate.

Oh and finally - More issues to shake a stick at with Plusnet looking at the forums and lots of pretty posturing once more from the glory boys - "were going to be so different soon, watch this space". I've been watching it for many months and you aint fixed jack!

VOTc? Vote Off The ---------- You can decide that last one.

Try as I might - and I do try - I can't see anything wrong with recruiting a PUG member or forum administrator. It could be argued that his experience as a PUG member gives him very useful knowledge of the current issues so that he can hit the ground running. PN might also argue that Liam's appointment is consistent with their "Voice of the Customer" notion.

Having initially championed Liam's nomination for PN portal forum moderator, I think that I have since observed his gradual indoctrination into the PlusNet ethos, culminating in his biased (imho) PUG article in support of the PlusNet walkout from AG.

But all in all, I have no objection in principle to PlusNet recruiting from the PUG ranks. There is presumably no clause in the PUG charter which demands lifelong membership nor precludes employment with PlusNet. And now with PlusNet paying his wages, customers will know for sure where his loyalties lie. Nothing wrong with that. In fact better that way than to be accused by some of being a PlusNet mole within the PUG ranks. And it looks to me as though the PUG has improved lately as Liam has stepped back and wildmind has come more to the fore.

So I'm not sure that anyone loses.

As you say - No harm in recruiting from the PUG - at least not for Plusnet...

However - I doubt very much whether this has been of benefit to the PUG.

Will anyone ever beleive that the PUG holds the custsomers interests just as highly as those of Plusnet now? Or has this move just killed off any beleif that the group acts in the interest of customers?

Although there is nothing wrong at all with this move, and I find Liam to be a very pleasant individual. I cant help but feel this is the first nail in the coffin for the PUG.

The only danger I can see is the risk that the PUG might attract people who want to get a job with PlusNet -- but I doubt there's any evidence of that. And I don't understand why Liam's appointment weakens the PUG. Some might argue the reverse is true - depending upon who may come in to replace him.

The PUG has never been very vocal in its criticisms of PlusNet - probably because it tries to achieve change in a slower, less obvious and more digestible way than might suit some folk. And it is arguable that they are all too cosy with PlusNet for the relationship to be healthy. But I have seen a few signs recently that one or two of the PUG members seem to be more prepared to speak out - but Liam perhaps has been less critical than other members.

In any event, as long as the PUG isn't seen as a stepping stone to a job with PlusNet and riches galore then I can't see that this appointment is harmful.

Look at things this way.

If he's Pro Plusnet to the point of taking the Plusnet line before the PUG line, he's out of the PUG and that's good for the PUG.

If he's Pro PUG and working for Plusnet, then it can only mean the Plusnet now have a Pro PUG member on board and should improve slightly.

Either way, the mods locked the last thread on this matter, and it wasn't due to length. Good luck to the chap.

Riches galore and a job with Plusnet don't go together since Plusnet are not known for high wages.

We are also pleased to announce that the comms team will be joined by PUGs very own Liam Martin, who will be leaving the UserGroup to take on a role at PlusNet.

Wracking my brains as to why this and a recent thread so gets my goat.

Basically it is people making comments about a persons integrity, cos that what it comes down to, on speculation, supposition and to some degree innuendo. The person is unknown to most people who are posting, for some it is not even their ISP, and I would suggest even more so, none of their business.

I feel it unsavoury that people think that they can use this BBS to discuss the honesty/integrity/motivations regarding what is basically this persons private life. Many people make comments regarding the ISP in general, some of them very forthright I think I can say, and as long as it remains impersonal it usually goes unchallenged, but for us to pontificate on the rights and wrongs of this individuals actions (who we don
