LLU- IPStream MAC

[link to this post]

Has anyone requested a LLU- IPStream MAC from Plusnet since they moved away from BT.

I was told that they no longer provide BT MAC's and that they will provide a LLU- IPStream MAC if my new supplier will accept them.

I checked with SKY and they said they will accept the LLU- IPStream MAC , so went back to PN and requested for one on Saturday 19th August. They replied within a few days saying that they had forwarded my request.

Over a week later and after several requests from myself I got another update saying they had now sent the request to their supplier, it would appear the previous request was just internal with PN from one department to another, why it took over a week god knows. They also said it will take upto 7 days.

A further week later and again only after being prompted by myself I have been told

"Unfortunatley there has been a delay due to technical difficulties with the supplier and they are unable to generate MAC keys at the moment.

We have been advised by the supplier to hold any MAC requests at the until the issue has been resolved."

This is now well over two weeks since my original request....

I would like to know if anyone out there has had any success from PN in this field, or if anyone can advice me if there is anyway I can escalate this within PN without waiting hours on their customer support lines.

I need to move to another supplier without losing my connection, so would like to avoid having to terminate my account and wait for the line to be released before I move.

PN supplier is TISCALI. I asked twice for a MAC and was refused. I cancelled and at the time of cancelling PN placed a 'cease order' with TISCALI. Internet was removed on 14/7/06 but the cease which releases the TISCALI marker on my line never happened.

Apparently PN have to order the cease through TISCALI who in turn place the cease order with BT Wholesale who remove the marker. BT won't remove without the order coming from the holder of the marker as opposed to the ISP.

PN Have placed 6 cease orders with TISCALI none of which have been forwarded to BTW. I have been without the internet for nearly 8 weeks.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the problems but send a PM to one of these guys:

PN have clarified within CS that you should be migrated back to BT as per the LLU FAQ.

My advice is to get it in writing that you want the line ceased and that you want it done within 7 days. You must also ask them to honour the commitment not to be out of pocket. then sign-up to a new ISP and if you are charged a new activation fee to forward the invoice to PN. Make sure you get this in writing from them before you cease the line.

The other alternative is to wait and see if there are any deferred activation charges of

Is this not the same problem people have when canceling their Tiscali retail account i.e. the marker not being removed. It seems to be an age old problem with Tiscali.

Something I think will work giving that Tiscali are not issuing MACs. A lot of ISP's will order a telephone connection and BB at the same time. If the one that you are moving to does then cancel your excisting phone line for a certain date (which should also cease any BB and the marker) and order a new phone connection and BB for the day after. It will mean a different phone number but at least you won't be stuck without broadband for months.

George - when some of us warned PN about Tiscali, they rushed (Ian Wild particularly) to tell us that Tiscali Wholesale was not the same as Tiscali Retail and there was nothing to fear, and much to gain from being switched to Tiscali LLU.

My exchange was on the Tiscali list - I requested my MAC the following day and have never regretted it.

BTW - before you accuse me of being a troublemaking ex customer, I am still a

Indeed a lot of people did warn against Tiscali, myself included, and as you correctly stated people were assured there would be no problems. I was amazed that PlusNet agreed to transfer so many customers without testing the product longer with a smaller number.

The whole Tiscali LLU transfer has turned out to be a complete and utter mess and I should imagine PlusNet have learnt yet another lesson, at least we can hope they have.

One can only guess the PN/Easynet LLU trial was abandoned. I guess Tiscali offered them the cheaper option and in true fashion the term "buy cheap, buy twice" rings true.

You should be well aware by now Plusnet don't make mistakes, everything they do is meticulously planned to happen as it does. Thats they're transparent system in place ya know over they're superbly ran network?

"For the record, there is no other ISP managing a Broadband network half as efficiently as us"
Ian Wild, Communications Manager
"One thing that these guys (other ISPs) all have in common is their complete inability in being able to manage a network, which is something that we are totally transparent on and also do totally effectively."
"We've definitely changed our internal processes to make sure human error is far less likely,"
Marco Potesta, Director of Marketing
