Re: Top referrer makes

I wouldn't want to line my pockets with the misfortune of others bad choices, more so if i was the person who'd recommended them.

For example, I'd happily refer folks to zen for nothing in return, which is exactly how they get alot of business.

With Plusnet they're a company ran by an unscrupulous management team who'll do anything for a sale, including paying people who are happy to cream off others unfortunate enough to take they're advice, just for the money.

I'd be very suprised if this

***Amusing Plusnet Quotes***
"For the record, there is no other ISP managing a Broadband network half as efficiently as us"
Ian Wild, Communications Manager
"One thing that these guys (other ISPs) all have in common is their complete inability in being able to manage a network, which is something that we are totally transparent on and also do totally effectively."
"We've definitely changed our internal processes to make sure human error is far less likely,"
Marco Potesta, Director of Marketing

Could I ask a question and without it being misinterpreted - Would you in all honesty recommend PN to friends, family or customers at this time? I know you have stated you are happy with their service but you are also no doubt aware of the problems so would you for love or money send them somewhere else or to PN? I am serious and will take your answer in the same spirit and I certainly don't want to argue, just your honest POV.

I know it was aimed at someone else but my take is that all I needed was a connection, didn't need any of the email/web platform stuff, and I had sufficient accounts already in use, and they worked, I'd need a lot of persuading to change them all.

From never having used them but from what I read on here there's no way I would use them, or recommend them, but in the right circumstances I can't see why an existing customer wouldn't go out of their way to leave.

cheers,
Paul

Assuming their ISP needs were in line with Plusnet's service (Download limits, price, services etc), yes.

I myself have one tiny complaint that pops up semi-regularly with Plusnet and it's the hosting of the CGI servers. However, I'm aware that I'm getting a CGI service which is 90% at decent speeds and sometimes slow. All for no extra cost.

Service - is that not a problem?

I say that because the only things that differentiate ISPs now is their service. Anyone can provide a connection, email or hosting but how many companies can provide adequate service and a reliable service? I would think that reliability is the most crucial of them all and PN are not able to. I know it hasn't affected you directly but do you not agree it is a problem?

That usually is my most important criteria above all else but I accept it is not what everyone needs. wants or is perhaps willing to compromise on due to a lower price. I am not a heavy downloader, I wasn't when I was with PN either and I never called them except for once when my line went down. They got onto it double quick but this was in June last year and I know it would not be the same today. There are other reasons why I could no longer recommend them and although I am not in the minority I don't expect everyone to be the same as me.

I do however thank you for your frank answer.

Taking this thread back on topic, it looks like it was a Plus.net reseller who got the kudos...

340? Is it the managing director puttng in a dodgy claim?

Those figures are actually correct. Last month, Phil, our Campaigns Officer, spent some time calling some of our largest resellers to try and find out what techniques they are using to get such high figures. There were quite a few varied approaches, from word of mouth to other methods.

As has already been mentioned, they have been some high level members of staff who are no longer with us. But I'm still here. Yay

It seems that even after you leave Plus.net as an employee you become a reseller.. its almost in the blood..

I noted from another post somewhere that now you can leave PN and still retain being paid for referrals. Obviously they are getting desperate, one person leaves and takes another dozen with them. This person if he had left could have taken 340 accounts away too, but now they can leave, for say bad service, keep the money and PN keep the customers.

By the way at what level do you have to inform IN REV when you have paid someone? I seem to remember over
