I get the same speed proportions as you. HTTP>Fast - FTP>Slow.

Makes a bit of a mockery of the concept that FTP is for file transfers (odd that given it's name) and to avoid using HTTP for same.
Plusnet either want to break the internet or don't want file transfers going on - wonder which

Another example

The source: ticklers.org
The test file to debian-31r3-ia64-binary-2.template (5.3MB)
Speed monitor used: Netmeter
Location: UK

HTTP

http://ftp.ticklers.org/debian-cd/current/ia64/jigdo-dvd/debian-31r3-ia64-binary-2.template

SPEED: 650KBs

FTP

ftp://ftp.ticklers.org/debian-cd/current/ia64/jigdo-dvd/debian-31r3-ia64-binary-2.template

SPEED: 100KBs

My 1st test also now comes down at 100KBs on ftp (guess that since it ticked past 16:00hrs the speeds become a little better

I've just checked this on another source that I know of, where it's simply a change from ftp:// to http:// and sure enough similar results.

FTP I'm getting 26KB/sec maximum, but down to around 12KB/sec as the general speed.

Yet via http it's around 500KB/sec almost constantly.

/me checks the member centre on the Portal to see if I'm actually signed up for a "Premium" account...

Tested again and both sources FTP and HTTP now give good speed. That to me suggests things get much better after 16:00

That's when peak time limiting hits in for premier customers who have went over 13GB so they are removed from the competition.

So pleased I switched to Sky BB now, constant 420kB/sec (my line sync is 4120) downloads on any protocol, any time of the day. And great upstream too .
