Is it just me or is Plusnet blocking the SSH connection?
I can't connect to my server via SSH at all from my Plusnet connection, however I can connect to my server from my phone using PocketPuTTY.
I've rebooted the router without any luck.
Thanks,

Sure your phone provider is not blocking it?
Many do on consumer packages (T-mobile and Voda I know for a fact do) along with a bunch of other "non-consumer" protocols.

Doesn't SSH fall into the bronze queue to prevent people using p2p over an SSH tunnel? If so, that could be the reason, i.e. there's not enough bandwidth to service the bronze queue.

SSH works fine on my T-Mobile contract phone (Vario/pocket putty) and on my 3g datacard too...

Plusnet do not block SSH connections or VPN for that matter on any of their products. They do traffic shape it though which can, during busy times, make connections unreliable or not as fast as non-busy times.
If you are still having problems when it is quiet then maybe its a local issue - have you tried rebooting your router & PC? checked your firewall is still set correctly etc.

T-mobile block it on the non "Pro" version of web-n-walk according to our acc. mgr, although I've never used the non pro version to confirm, tbh..

Er, what are you talking about? My mobile phone has got nothing to do with Plusnet...
I am saying that on my Plusnet connection, I was unable to use SSH at all. But when I used my mobile phone (that is not connected to Plusnet, just T-Mobile), it worked fine which means the problem lies with Plusnet.

Ah, could be... going to research further on this. It seems to be getting worse than the past 4 months.
Thanks!

As mentioned in my first post, I've already rebooted my rouiter. For the PC, yes, done that. No change when I tried last night.
It seems to be working fine this morning without having me to change anything on my PC & router..
Traffic shaping seems to be the answer. And very annoying.

It appears to be throttled on business lines during busy times too which is worse!!

|

So let me get this right,
SSH which is can be used as a business class application and VPN which certainly is used as a business application is throttled ... on a BUSINESS line during BUSINESS hours ..
Someones taking the [censored] ! that cannot be correct, even plusnet aren't that stupid.

Aah right - my mobile bill is definately in the 'pro' amount of shekels every month...

Never noticed it myself to be throttled, either plain ssh or via winscp for file transfer

Is this from experience (i.e. you have seen it yourself) or from what others have said or in some cases assumed without ant actual proof?
If it is clear that VPN/SSH is being limited on business accounts to the extent where it is noticable then that does go against what PN have said both in public and private about the traffic management on business accounts. Tam has already queried this on the PUG forums but if it gets no response we will raise it internally.

It is what I am noticing on a PN business line. It seems to slow down around 11am-14pm. Http traffic appears fine however.
I would be interested in hearing the outcome.
I have requested my mac code today for my own account, and we probably wont renew our business lines (we pay anually) when they expire.

Don't forget to give them the 30 day notice on the 11th month otherwise it will automatically rollover to a new annual contract.
> At the end of your contract period, if you do not tell us that you wish to cancel we will automatically renew your contract. Your cancellation request must be given 30 days prior to your contract end date.
Taken from the current T's and C's.
The PUG were supposed to ask Plus.net to clarify if this was still true but it's better safe than sorry.

We actually got disconnected on two of them last year because the cheque to renew was in the post. Our own fault I guess.

Maybe this happened because you don't have your company's credit card or direct debit details in their system so they couldn't guarantee that they would be paid for renewing your annual contract, hence they cancelled your connection.
Like I said before, better safe than sorry to give them the 30 day notice anyhow.

You have to admit that they are quite possibly that inept. They've demonstrated that by deleting emails etc.

That sucks if true. Plusnet need shooting.
Can't the almighty Ellacoyas tell if they're being asked to process unusually high volumes of SSH traffic indicating some form of file transfer? Sure it's encrypted, but there is a noteable behaviour pattern.
