Well, just got this:
In reply to:

Dear *******,
We're pleased to inform you that your broadband will shortly be upgraded to give you 'up to 8Mb' speeds.
About your broadband
--------------------
High-speed 'Up to 8Mb' broadband works in a different way to your current service.
Your up to 8Mb speeds will be provided to you using Broadband ADSL Max. With this 'rate-adaptive' technology your data-transfer speeds will change according to conditions on the line. This means that you can expect to see your broadband speeds vary, where previously you would have one set speed.
To confirm, after we've upgraded your account the actual speed you receive is likely to vary, both during the initial provisioning period and subsequently during the lifetime of the service. Please note, due to the way the service works, we cannot guarantee what speeds you will ultimately obtain for the 'up to 8Mb' service.
What do I need to know?
----------------------
During the first 10 days of Max your phone line will be automatically measured to establish what speed it can support, and in particular at what speed the line will remain stable. You will see your modem 'sync' speeds vary, and commonly may experience disconnections and some instability of your connection. During the testing period you should frequently make new connections to the Internet so these tests can take place. It's a good idea to power off/on your modem or router when doing this - this will force your equipment to reconnect. After 10 days you should see your speeds stabilise at the fastest speed your line can support.
It will assist us if you could make preparations so that any temporary variance in speed or disconnection will not inconvenience you too much. Please do not raise a fault report to us during this period.

Am I right in thinking that this is not LLU and it is therefore less prone to some of the issues people have had with 8MB upgrade?
Thanks in advance,

Well, it doesn't mention LLU here so it sounds like you are safe for the moment...
BTW, LLU doesn't need a 10 day training period.

During the first 10 days of Max ...
This would suggest MaxDSL and not LLU

i'm guessing technology in the loose sense of the word,
when it comes to PN LLU
|
|
|
LLU isn't actually a bad thing, it's just that Tiscali's implementation wasn't great..
I have to admit that I've not heard of anyone moaning about Be* Unlimited's implementation of LLU .

I agree,
that's why I put PN LLU, as wouldn't want to tar
others with the same brush.
|

Technically we should say Tiscali LLU since Plus.net don't actually have any of their own

I see your point, but a PN customer would have to consider it a PN LLU, as
they have no contract with Tiscai.
|
|

In pretty much the same way that some people call it BT line ADSL even though they don't have any contact with BT
Seriously though, if the OP is scared of being placed on LLU then they could always check with the BT Speedtest to see if they have after they have been migrated to the new connection:

If they are on LLU then the BT login details won't work.

Well if it's not LLU then hopefully things should be OK. I stick with it.

I stand corrected
Tiscali LLU it is

Yeah, things are slightly better on DSL Max though there are some teething problems with that too.
BTW, did you use the LLU opt-out which is on the trials.plus.net webpage to prevent you from being migrated over to LLU when it arrives at your exchange?
I've heard of customers on Plus.net being migrated to DSL Max and then not long afterwards being migrated to LLU.

Maybe Plus.net don't know how many of their users are already on the DSL Max products?
Admittedly the CSC even had difficulty knowing when a user was migrated to Tiscali LLU and insisted that the user was still on Max even though the signs said that they weren't.

Its not very hard for an CSC agent to find out if a user is on LLU or IPStream.
All he/she needs to do is to check e.Co. If there is a cease order for a LLU transfer, it means the user will be transferred to Tiscali LLU. Also the agent has access to Tiscali read only provisioning system as well just to double check. If there is no cease order and the asset is still current then, the user is still on IPStream.
The CSC agent should have access to both systems.
I know sometimes they dont give e.CO out after working after a certain period of time as last thing they want is someone placing a cease on someone line by accident

It would depend on whether or not the CSC person was able (as in had the knowledge) or had the will to do so, of course but IIRC ths forum has a few threads where people have complained that the CSC didn't know that the user had been migrated to Tiscali LLU and where still insisting that they try the BT login speedtest
Apparently it has been said that Plus.net aren't given a definative list of people who are migrated over to LLU by Tiscali.
