Any experience moving house with PlusNet?

[link to this post]

Hi

I'm hoping to move house in the next couple of weeks and want to take my PN account with me. I've read the couple of threads here about moving house and also read the PN website about it.

I understand it takes about 7-10 days to get up and running, which is a real pain as I work largely from home and rely on broadband for that.

What I was wondering is:

1. Is there any way to speed up the activation on the new house? The number will be different and it currently does have adsl activated with a different ISP.

2. Has anyone got any suggestions as to the best way to minimise the downtime?

3. Has anyone had any experience of moving house and can make any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Toby

It was a nightmare, took six weeks to get it live.

The big stumbling block for you could be how quickly the existing ISP releases the tag on the line. That can cause big delays and it is difficult to get anything done about it.

I've just had a chat with PN on their support forums and they say that if I order it far enough in advance the order to cease on one line and start on the other should happen together.

But I take your point about the other ISP releasing the line, I'll try and persuade the other lot to book their transfer asap as well.

Thanks for the advice

we took our number and it was about a month. I thought I ordered fairly early as well. Not sure if it was plusnet or BT to be honest. Going back to dialup was a pain. Perhaps things have got better

When we moved we took our number also. It was transferred on the Friday at 1 and then on the Monday there was a fault on our line which they said wouldn't be fixed until the Thursday. The provison on the old line was processed on the 30th March and the re-provision to the new line was applied for. BT "accidentally" canceled the re-provision. Had to wait another week. None of this was PlusNet's fault and they agreed to refund a months subscription.

All in all not too bad.

i think plusnet did give us a refund when we asked. The whole thing appears to have lots of pitfalls, mainly on the BT side. If we moved again, I would expect it to be down for 4 weeks now and manage our life accordingly. An isp can't win, if BT mess up, the ISP gets kicked by the customer if the ISP messes up it gets kicked by the customer.

I actually had a very good experience, possibly not the norm though...

Moved house last December, phone line connected on a Saturday morning (new number), used the moving house thing on Plusnet portal on Saturday lunchtime, router sync'ed sometime on Monday (mid-day ish).

Couldn't quite believe it myself!
