It's a combination of PlusNet's systems learning about the spam, the changes to PlusNet's filtering to block more mail from ever reaching users and the fluctuations in how and when the spam is being sent. there has been a concerted effort from PlusNet to stop the focussed mail which is a good thing and I'm glad it's worked for you. Unfortunately it hasn't solved the (unsolvable) problem nor have these efforts helped the large number of non-PlusNet controlled e-mail accounts that the company leaked.
My PlusNet accounts are still being bombarded (although I have spam filtering turned off) and non PlusNet accounts are still receiving the odd spam. Although these non PlusNet accounts were much better than PlusNet at stopping/tagging the spam from the start, they have obviously not had the focussed effort on this type of spam that PlusNet have.
I wonder what will happen when the next wave of differently formed spam is sent to the harvested addresses...
