I have my telephone line disconnected by strong winds 1st time i had this has happened in 20 years or more.
After BT fixed the line 2 days later, I test my Internet speed and shock horror 129 kbps it comes out at,
so i look on my plusnet account see the sync speed is set to 250 kbps
Ok contact Plusnet by a Ticket...this is part of there reply:
"Thanks for your query. It looks like this is being limited by your local exchange (which is currently setting you a connection profile of 0.25Mb).
Unfortunately it is not possible for us to change this manually" ......
...."The Max DSL service will upgrade your line speed after a period of approximately 3 days if it finds that conditions on the line have improved."
So after further trying to beg them to increase the speed to something reasonable the 3 days pass.
Guess what speed has increased wow!!!! to what speed you may ask 234 kbps the sync is still 250 kbps
I tell plusnet this...There reply is
"I have now changed this to 4MB which is in line with the BT information. Please power cycle your router to pick up the new Sync speed."
so they increased the Sync speed to 4000 kbps, what is funny as didn't they say this..
"Unfortunately it is not possible for us to change this manually"
But they some how manage to when they wanted too....strange....
ok so now i am getting 3770 kbps when i was getting around 6000 kbps or more and plus say this....
After a further 3 days well 82 hours... i ask the to up the sync speed to how it was before.
"I'm sorry but this is the maximum your line can support and this is indicative within the BT exchange information which still shows at 4MB.
I am glad that the line has stabilized and should remain but please let us know if you have any further problems.
What has happened to plusnet, they seem to be trying to put users on slower than necessary speeds

Hi there,
We can't update your sync speed from our side, what my colleague will have done is update the line profile on our system to match the IP Profile you'd see on a BT speedtest.
This would have updated automatically the next time the update script ran.
It's good to know your speeds have improved. What sync speed is your router showing? That'll show us whether or not your profile will increase again.

my sync speed is 4000 Kbps set by plusnet maually i would say after i complained to them all of a sudden it changed.
Look i dont really care if Plusnet is lying about this or not.
All i want is my speed back to how it was before now my line is better than before if anything if should be faster not slower. 6000 kbps or above and nott 3770 kbps.

Hiya,
We have absolutelely ZERO control over your sync speed. We are able to profile your speeds via our systems to make sure that your line is being profiled at the same level as BT, but we have no control over your actual sync speed. That is controlled by BT Wholesale and them only.
If you could let us know the ticket number in question, I'll be happy to have a look and see if there's anything that we can do to get BT to improve this.

Look I have been a Plusnet customer since 2004 I am no newbie, I had over 6000 kbps before the wind that disconnected the line
BT tested the line and said there was nothing wrong with it the only problem was between the telephone pole and my house. what is now replaced.
I don't think this is really the way to treat a loyal plusnet customer, and trying to give me a slow speed what ever excuse you have it don't wash.

It's not Plusnet giving the slow speed, it is the sync speed that is causing this. That is controlled via the telephone exchange which suprise suprise is owned by BT.

BT own Plusnet ...so there all really the same company..
What of is really funny, when plusnet say they cant do much and are powerless.

Are you really as angry as you sound, I think you are getting mixed up with which part of BT owns plusnet, and sadly one can not influence the other.

So you are syncing at 4000Kbps, do you know what the attenuation, and noise margin figures are? If may be the automatic systems have increased the target noise margin to make the line more stable as the result of some instability seen.
The setting Plusnet updated seems to be their mirror of the IP Profile which is maintained by the BT Wholesale side of things. The IP profile is determined by your sync speed, the look up table can be seen at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/radsl.html#225 which with a 4000Kbps sync you would have a 3.5Mbps IP profile giving maximum speedtests of around 3.4 Mbps.
Plusnet is owned by BT but under the BT Retail banner, and there are lots of rules over who can talk to who about what within BT, to ensure fair competition with the encumbent operator - so the vision of Plusnet owned by BT, so Plusnet can do everything is a very long way from reality, but makes for a good rant to clear the air at least.

You are now going off the subject, I dont know or care really about how BT own Plusnet , I only know they do, I dont know all the details about the deal, The Customer is never angy you should learn this. The customer is always right, a happy customer is a customer that you will keep and he will spead the good word.
Back to the problem in hand please its simple i had over 6000 Kbps speend i now dont now. I live close to the exchange around 1Km and have no reason to get slow speed.
This is my router stats.
Downstream Upstream
Line Attenuation 31 db 10.5 db
Noise Margin 10 db 24 db
