Hi, I went onto the free for 3 months upload upgrade to 832k from Plusnet a few months ago, but as I didnt really make to much use of the extra speed I decided not to pay for the service once the months came to an end, however I have only just noticed today that my upload speed is the slowest it has ever been, even before I trialed the 832k upload service! I am still synced up to my exchange at 832k and various speedtests this morning are giving me my normal 6-7mbit download but the max upload ive got is 176k!! The minimum I would ever get before I went on the trial was double this plus when I was on the trial I was getting around 700k all day long.
Plusnet?

Forgot to add I have tried the obvious checks, eg rebooting my router, reconnecting to a difference gateway etc.

Strange as I've checked your account (well I think it's your account!) and the regrade to move to the normal Max product completed a while ago.

Strange, does it show the same on the BT speedtest as the others? I'll run a quick linetest too and see if there is anything obvious.

Thanks Chris and yes indeed it is strange, ive never had an upload speed so slow even on the 10 times worst ISP's ive previously used!! Its only been like this since my 832k upload was taken off, I previously synced up at 448k and got around 300k upload. On the 832k package I was hitting at least 100k/sec upload without a problem anytime of the day.
Screenshot below to prove my previous results:

Im just waiting for the BT speedtest to get its finger out...

I've got an idea, if this has been the same since you changed from max premium thenI could move you back there and back off again. Each order will take around 24 hours and hopefully it'll sort out this issue.

Looks likes the first part has gone through Chris:
Today 10:05 6828 kbps (854kB/s) 696 kbps (87kB/s)
Thats a massive changes from this time yesterday:
Yesterday 10:36 6734 kbps (842kB/s) 117 kbps (14.6kB/s)
Lets hope it doesnt drop stupidly low again for no reason... should really be 300k from my experience of my line through you guys. I take it I wont get charged for this being put up then back down again?
Cheers for your help so far!

Chris, being on the premium service I know you get the higher upload but do you also get a better contention ratio? 20:1 instead of 50:1 ??
|
|
|
Oh wow!
BT dropped the 50:1 and 20:1 contention system when ADSL Max was introduced. Some ISPs still quote those figures, and if they do it is either rot or refers to the contention purely within their own system, not to their links to the outside world or your exchange.
I would be very surprised if Plusnet have such ratios in place - I don't think there would be much need for the complex throttling tables if they did.
Office level connections get "priority" through the BT systems I believe. I expect that's what the premium service is.

All completed and a quick line check now shows the correct sync speed, what are the actual upload speeds you're seeing like now?
