I have a Plusnet account that I rarely use; the router has been switched off for the last three months. On Tuesday at 11.30am I switched on the router and the connected Apple computer. I found the Apple computer needed to have 600mb of updates downloaded. This took about 2.5 hours to complete solely do the severe throttling being applied by Plusnet.
By way of comparison, when I got home in the evening I used the Be* service to download a 700mb .iso of Ubuntu and got that in 6 minutes. I installed that and it had 235mb of updates to download, This 235mb arrived in 2 minutes.
BT seem to have got broadband fundamentally wrong if such throttling has become the norm. I know now that I will never go back to a BT based broadband service.
