Do Plusnet throttle Bittorent.

[link to this post]

I used to be on Metronet but recently swapped over to Plusnet. I tend to use Bittorent a fair bit to download "stuff" with no problems at all. However now iv'e swapped over to Plusnet I get really bad download speeds with Bittorent, especially in the evening, I mean sometimes it basically grinds to a halt!, argh!

Bittorrent is managed across our products, yes. If you're on one of the new product set (Value, Unlimited or Plusnet Pro) then have a look here for the expected speeds: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/quality_broadb...

If you're on a BBYW package have a look here: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archi...

Hope those links help.

Yes they do - and I have reason to believe they are blocking the protocol completely during the evenings at times. I even have problem with p2p uploads - which according to the traffic management plan should not be traffic shaped at all.

I have logged a fault and awaiting Plusnet to look into this.

In the meantime, try disconnecting and reconnecting to shift onto another gateway and regularly changing the ports your torrent client is using.

There's little point changing ports. We dont block ports, we manage bit torrent by signature, header and dif services using intelligent traffic management to ensure that p2p traffic doesnt have a negative impact on time sensitive traffic. It will be impacted more heavily during peak times as the info Chris linked to indicates.
