I sent a Birthday eCard

[link to this post]

Hi, I sent my friend a birthday card by post, and thoughtfully sent a Hallmark
Birthday eCard, later in the day I telephoned to wish them happy birthday and asked,
did you receive the birthday eCard, they said no, embarrassingly I said, oh
maybe I made a mistake with the e-mail address, I will send you another one!

This time to make sure I sent two, and carefully paid attention to entering the
e-mail address.

Days later I got an e-mail from them stating, I did not receive that eCard from you,
so I sent two more, and they did not get those.

My friend uses PlusNet, we put it down to the PlusNet Postini spam blocker, it
has prevented my friend from receiving the eCards and classed them as spam,
can anything be done about this?

Surely your friend should be able to look in the spam folder and check if they are there?

I thought the filter only marked stuff as spam, and directed it to the appropriate folder, not stopped you receiving it altogether? I can't actually remember if there is a filter setting that says destroy it WITHOUT putting it in the spam folder, but I can definitely view and recover all my spam (not that I particularly want to).

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! I have made a Big Bo-Bo here, I know nothing about
these AntiSpam Filter, blockers, I dont have one myself, I thought it was at the
PlusNet end. Now I know they have Norton on their PC and I bet it has gone into
the Norton AntiSpam Folder.

I do apologise for blaming PlusNet. blush

Well, I am not saying for sure it couldn't be Plusnet, but definitely checking out the spam folder(s) should reveal if it has been delivered, but wrongly classed as spam. The spam folder is always a good first place to look, if you were expecting something, but didn't receive it. If it's in there, it's usually a simple operation to say this is NOT spam, and restore it to the inbox. Spam filters are not infallible - they just have to make the best call, based on the available info. As there are quite a lot of bogus messages that try to tempt the recipient by saying "You've got an e-card", or similar, it may be that a genuine e-card is sometimes interpreted as spam.

Having sent an Hallmark e-card to myself I can confirm these are unfortunately scored as spam and end up in the Spam folder. I guess the minimalist style of the message with a link to the e-card contributes to this. I've forwarded it to notspam at spamtraining.plus.com for investigation.

Your friend should find the cards in their spam folder but whitelisting hallmark.be should stop them ending up there.

Hi spraxyt, thank you for testing the spam filter and notifying notspam@spamtraining
for me, I see now, the eCards have gone into a spam folder on the plusNet website
and the e-mail spam filter settings have to be changed there in my friends email settings
at manage my mail.

Thanks for the instruction to enter (hallmark.be) I would never have figured that out,
they entered in the full website address at first and it would not accept it, lets hope
it all works.
