I have no problem with any other part of plusnet, download speeds are excellent (in fact in an area where BT do 512k connections, plusnet give 2meg speeds), and I am on the 10 gig limit package which is also ok as most of my downloading is after midnight.
The problem I have is that my torrent speeds are throttled to 27k/s (down), I understand during peak hours, traffic is shaped for a reason, and hence torrents only get 5/6k a second, but at 4am 27k/s is unreasonable, especially when all other types of download are 150k/s+. this is nothing to do with my exchange, my distance from it, the setup of my software, or anything else, I have set up everything correctly and portforwarded.
Surely 50k/s+ isn't too much to ask offpeak?

From my experience, chats with CSC and finally a voice discussion with Dave Tomlinson at Plusnet, packet loss on their gateways at peak times practically renders the traffic management plan for the lower protocols worthless.
As an illustration; on Unlimited the upstream channel for p2p, Usenet etc is totally unrestricted 24/7. Great for uploading torrents you may say... well no, because in practice it doesn't work that way. Because Plusnet's gateways get full at peak times and packets start to get dropped by the bucket load and things like p2p get ground to a halt as a result (it's one of the first protocols to get killed off), the unrestricted upstream for these protocols is nothing short of a gimmick - the upstream speed get choked because the downstream packets aren't getting through for the ACKs.
Yes - I am aware you can hop gateways, but try doing this more than 5-6 times in a few minutes to get a 'less loaded' gateway and you'll get login problems.
Upshot; more capacity at Plusnet, please!

the max download speeds for torrents are 256kbps which gives 32k/s max, so I am achieving a consistant high download set by plusnet, Im just dissapointed it is only 256kbps, 512 would be better.

Did you realise this throttle applied before you signed up OR can we continue to beat plusnet with twigs for putting all the nice words in bold on the marketing page and all the horrid words elsewhere. Words like: throttle, bandwidth limit, minimum contract.
Don't get me wrong I've been quite impressed - but the new long contracts are scary, and no escape clause. And I dislike the imbalance between the marketing push and the reality.

my dad got te internet, he said its 100% free after midnight to which i said "oh thats good", i knew traffic shaping existed, but i never expected torrents to be throttled at 4am... I have always known 8-2am to be gaming priority, and 2-8am torrents + heavy downloading on other ISP's. Im not going to mention anything to him because he got this internet for me and I am grateful, just dissapointed about the throttle.
I find it funny they say gaming gets priority because they need low pings... this is bull as lag and latency have nothing to do with bandwidth. when plusnet throttled me to 128k for going over my limit, gaming was excellent, 2Meg is stupid amount to give to gaming. For example, a level on little big planet for PS3 + player data is no more than 500k.

good point on the gaming, I am interested to know what game would require 2meg downstream.

I suspect the 2Mbps for gaming is to support multi-teenager households and shared student accommodation. If we say 512kbps each for safety then 2Mbps gives you four gamers in one house. High but not outlandish and ofcourse in such environment people often have similar habits so its like the evening bandwidth jumps at circa 16:30, 18:30, etc.

How many households have four teenagers (in most probability males) nowadays and they certainly aren't the bill payers any way
I suspect the 2Mbps for gaming is no different than it is for line speed for browsing,why if 2 Mbps is available for gaming is it not for torrents or usenet

None, If you play TF2 add the net graph command in the console and it shows about 12k a second.
