Persistent speed problem.

[link to this post]

Hi

This has basically been going on for a couple of months. My broadband will be working absolutley fine - my estimated line speed is around 3-4 meg and my router normally synchs at around 4000-5000. I`m on Plusnet Pro and when everything is working my download speeds are fine - not far off of my line speed. But for the last couple of months things have been going wrong. All of a sudden my broadband will be slow - I`ll check the router and notice that have disconnected and reconnected and am now synched at between 500-1000. If I reboot the router it will synch at something more realistic but my downloads wont go above around 1000. Sometimes it the router will stay sycnhed at around 4000-5000 but the download speeds wont go above 500 or so. I have been in touch with plusnet several times and they have said there is a problem with my IP profile and its now been buimped up and it then works ok for a bit before I start to get the same problem.

My knowledge of all the technical stuff is limited as you can probably tell but it seems the problem is that my IP profile is just extremly erratic and goes from line speed to below 1000 without any reason.

I`m starting to find this a major problem now so if anyone has any ideas I`d be most grateful.

Hi Footys,

Sorry I haven't replied to your PM yet, I've just been off for a few days (well, I had Monday off).

From my perspective, yours is a problem with fluctuating sync rates, which will probably as indicate that you have a dropping connection issue, which you may or may not notice, depending on what time of the day the drops are occurring.

The best bet initially is to rule out as much as you possibly can. Make sure your filters are okay, try to borrow a router from a friend if you can do (we can loan you one if that's not a possibility) and make sure that you're wired directly to your master socket (test socket is better if that's practical to have in place for a few days). If you're using your master socket, make sure that all of your telephone sockets (that are being used) are being filtered.

Hi James

We only actually have the one socket in our house and I have the router connected via the test socket. I`ve tried a different router and I`ve put new filters on and the problem still persists.

Router syncing at around 4000 currently but cant get any speed faster than 600kbps - making Xbox live pretty unusable.

Would appreciate it if you could look into this ASAP James as its getting tiresome now.

Just be wary of Plusnet diagnosing and trying to fix speed problems. In my case they said my speed issues we're over.....................only for it to get worse. If I we're you and you could afford it? I would get on to the ISPA and get your MAC and bail out (sorry for the bad taste in post to everybody else on here but i'm so bitterly angry at what they did to me and refused to apologise so far too.

Hi Footys,

Thanks for getting back to me. Looking at our RADIUS logs, it looks like you have an intermittent connection.

Could you possibly go to http://faults.plus.net and raise an intermittent connection fault detailing everything that you've told me that you have done.

If you need any help giving the fault a poke, then by all means please drop me a PM (I'll see them quicker on Community than I will on here though).

I'm sorry it's taken so long to fix, but with the nature of speed faults it's often hard to pick why it's actually occurring.
