Existing Loyal Customer v New Customer : Monthly

[link to this post]

Hi,

I get the feeling that New Customers are being preferred by Plusnet.

Existing Customers are being dumped.

I have been with Plusnet several years now.

I now find that New customers are getting better deals.

I am on option 2. I am in Market 3 area.

I don't really use that much. About 6 gb maximum per month.

Although with TV videos etc available now, I will probably be using more in future.

I want to remain on monthly contract and this is the sticking point.

My understanding has been that after twelve month contract, it become monthly contract.

Since I have been so many years with Plusnet , I feel that I have earned it and should remain on monthly contract.

Plusnet are offering cheaper deals to new customers. After they have been on the fixed contract, their contract becomes monthly.

So why can't existing monthly customers get better deals ?

There are so many cheaper offers around. And some are offering cash backs too.

If Plusnet are confident about their service then why are they forcing people to sign up for 12 months contract. It seems unfair.

If all ISP insist on long contracts, then it becomes uncompetitive.

It seems I am being forced to move.

Thanks

JM

Hi there,

If you'd like to PM me with your username I'll certainly be more than happy to review your account and see what we can offer.

To be clear though - we're not "dumping" existing customers. We're happy to look at potential recontracting offers, but that would generally involve an annual contract. given that new customers are expected to take a 12/18 month contract, I'm not certain why you feel that new customers are being treated better?

Hi,

Also I would like to add that Connection charge and router charge etc have been recouped from existing customers.

Thanks

JM

James,

Thanks for your quick reply.

My point is that New customers get a better price, and after twelve months / 18 months they remain on the better price on a monthly basis.

Therefore, I feel that existing customers on monthly basis should also get the better price and be able to remain on monthly contract.

Just as the new customers, the existing customers have already done 'time ' - 12 months with Plusnet. So why force them to a further long contract.

One month time horizon is long enough for me. I don't know what is happening tomorrow. smile 12 months is just too long for me.

Thanks

Much the same was discussed when the new packages came out. Most people that have already done their contract commitment are reluctant to sign up to a new contract. If it has enough savings then it could be worthwhile to bite the bullet.

Whilst not good it is not unusual. If you want to change to a lower tariff on mobile then I believe you often end up having to take a new contract. Seems to be the way the world is moving - if you want to do anything other than carry on with what you've got then the penalty is a new contract.

Just be glad - normally it's an 18 month contract and in the early days existing customers did not know that they could get it on a 12 month contract if they asked. So, anyone not in the know ended up renewing for 18 months.

And it is highly likely this will turn into a long thread as all of those previous discussions get rehashed (which of course I've already set the ball rolling).

Not if you have been with them after the contract has ended.
You can either have a one month contract, or sign for a longer contract and get a new phone.

Agreed, and I joined the discussion myself as I have several relatives on PN but as they are on exchanges with no competition there wouldn't be enough benefit moving to the new packages in order to make up for a new contract (especially as they were talking 18 months at the time).

I certainly wont be signing up for an additional 12 months... Market 1 exchange... so no benefit whatsoever to a 5 year customer. No house moves no equipment etc. BT Homehub from ebay for 20 english squids.

What I would be interested in is if O2 get round to joining my exchange.. My SNR has snuck up to 13 with a sync speed of 2.2 mb giving net speed of 1.75mb and no amount of occaisional daily reboots have an effect or leaving it for a week or more. In fact even a crack of dawn reboot drops the speed to below 1mb for a day or so. That is not a plusnet problem but a line one. Otherwise happy with Plusnet.

Sounds like O2 might refuse you a connection with those speeds and instability. Still, you might get lucky.
