How can the PN speedtester say I am getting 665kB/s while Firefox is downloading a 12Mb file at approx 5.7kB/sec?

Nope, they are most likely both correct.

The speed test is to a dedicated testing server and is not 'traffic managed' by PlusNet.

The download will be 'traffic managed' both by PlusNet and most likely the server you are downloading from. Even more so by PlusNet if you are downloading from one of the known file hosting/sharing websites.

Aren't the download Servers which deliver the updates on the "download servers list" and as such "managed" already?

Yeah i know how you feel, I really only use the internet at nights because like most people i work during the day. Therefore the only time i can use it is when its at its most restricted. Its like paying for 8mb and getting worst than my original broadband package say 5 years ago. Really fed up of it.

I got 11 downloads from MS on Tuesday. A grand total of 34.6MB. I don't think that is going to scare anyone. Unless the huge one was for XP. I'm on Vista Home Pemium.

Yes, Bob is correct. From 22 October, all contracts with PlusNet can be terminated with 10 days notice.

You will still have to pay any "Deferred Charges" such as Connection, Migration, Router, House Move etc. if you are leaving within 12 months, and unles you are migrating you will have to pay the £20 termination charge.
